BTW, CG, I agree, any Hopper film is a good thing for the collection. His influence on films, through his acting or directing has been very deserving of some sort of CC release. It was a sad day when he passed, but thankfully we have his work to remind us. (so ends my eulogy)
The fun thing today was I didn't start it. And I had a tag team partner. But were all having fun, no harm, just silly posts.

I hope this is on blu and opens a new door for Criterion. I could see the films you listed coming if this opens those doors.

Yes, I would like more Columbia pictures films to come out on Criterion and to get Universal Pictures to release Hopper's The Last Movie in which for the Wes Anderson fans here, Owen Wilson's character dressed like Hopper from the Last Movie in The Royal Tenenbaums.

I'll just put it this way. If Criterion were not such an important part of my cinema collection I wouldn't care about things such as cases they come in. That's how much I care about Criterion. Criterion is going to have the most prominent place in my DVD/Blu-Ray shelves for a long time. Even if I don't have as crazy large of a collection of them like Kndy does.

And anyway even the worst looking Criterion cases are far better than ECO cases IMO.

Yeah, it's just too bad that the wonderful child actor, Michel Tarrazon, wasn't able to create a great career out of acting.

Now I'm watching Maurice Pialat's "Police" with the wonderful Gérard Depardieu. I just received both of them today, along with four other discs, through the mail... all of them Masters of Cinema. Five of their recent seven Pialat discs are each 2-discs so it's a treat going through everything.

Did you happen to get Pialat's Nous ne vieillirons pas ensemble? I really want to watch that. So much so that I'm thinking about buying a region free player. It would play on region-free correct, or would I need a Region-B player? When it comes to players, I am a novice sad to say.

I think it would be great if Criterion would release Corman's "Battle Beyond the Stars."

No, unfortunately I haven't picked that one up, yet. Only "L'Enfance-nue" and "Police" were a part of Eureka's newsletter sale this month, and you can't go wrong for $15 each shipped from England. I also finally picked up Resnais' "Muriel," which I've never gotten around to watching.

As far as players go, you'd just need a region-free DVD player, which are a dime a dozen these days, I'm sure, to play the MOC DVDs. It's well worth the investment, I think. Just do your homework and read some reviews of online DVD players, if that's all you're looking for. Of course, most computers with a DVD-Rom drive and some type of software allow you to change the region-coding, as well, a certain number of times. Once I changed the settings on my laptop's DVD drive to Region B, though, I've never come across a reason to ever change it back to Region A.

Oppo BDP-80 + mod chip = $325 for region free DVD and Blu goodness. Worth every penny even if it means holding off a month on some blus...

Yes, but maybe not everyone has $325 at the moment for all of that goodness. Even just getting a region-free DVD player for under $100 opens any film lover's world to all kinds of great releases that aren't available in the USA.

As with all rumors, Criterion or otherwise, believe it when I see it.

(And then figure out if I can afford it.)

Seriously, though. Criterion had their clear, plastic blu-ray cases custom-made for their releases. It's not financially sound for them to go having custom-made plastic cases for 2-disc and 3-disc releases. The other multi-disc sets of "Che" and "Monterey Pop" & "Jimi/Shake!" both consisted of individual films that were released separately at one point. And hence why I'm sure each disc warranted a separate plastic case. However, with "The Leopard" both discs are part of one singular film... and as the case with the "By Brahkage" set, all three discs are commonly linked. It makes sense to me, but I suppose not to the OCD crowd out there. This packaging is no way inferior to the plastic cases. You guys must not have ever bought any of Criterion's standard DVDs to realized there's no uniformity in their packaging. And who gives two shits about uniformity!!!

I will now begin to play the world's smallest violin for the cardboard case haters.

CC
I don't even give a single shit to uniformity. I just get tired of trying to get an uncrunched/undamaged copy of just about anything they put out in cardboard. That's my OCD slant.

[rant]I finally threw in the towel the other day with ordering from Criterion when my Brakhage box set arrived all dented(/smooshed) up at least partly by the way they shipped it (not in a box, but in a cardboard wrapper a la amazon, not quite as flimsy, but flimsy enough) and partly because it was mixed in with 3 other blu-rays, which also got dented up to various degrees due to shifting around during shipping. The store copies of Brakhage I ran across later that day while investigating my other options also had various dings and dents too, so passed on them as well.[/rant]

So groan from me, I just don't look forward to dealing with getting undamaged copies of yet more digipaks. It's a major pain in the ass. And they are inferior for that particular reason; at least with plastic there's some degree of protection against damage. I have plenty of the DVD ones, been there done that.

Go ahead and laugh and play your ****ing violin. You don't need to be such an ******* about it.
