I feel like I'm in Clerks 2,

in the thread I discussed my dislike on Spielberg films, someone replied they were going to get sick. So it's kind of like when Randal made that Lord of the Rings nerd throw up by discussing his dislike for those films.

And why is this such a big deal? It's already out on Blu-ray in an edition that is pretty much perfect.

Yeah, well I'm going to be triple dipping on it, but it's something for right now. Hopefully we see The Last Movie and Out Of The Blue in the collection as well down the road.

I'm mixed on Spielberg. I really loved a lot of his earlier films like Jaws, E.T., Close Encounters, the first three Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, etc. But his more recent works (War of th Worlds, A.I., Indiana Jones 4, Munich, The Terminal, etc.) I wasn't impressed at all with. Most of his planned future releases (War Horse, remake of Oldboy, etc.) don't sound interesting either.

For me he's a good but badly overrated Director whose quality of work has seriously diminished over the past 15 or so years.

I could say he is good at what he does, and I'll leave it at that.

I can also say I do like his Indiana Jones films, because they are what they are. Fun.

Ever since Saving Private Ryan I'd say what he's good at is raking in lots of money for making mediocre films.

Bingo. I called Saving Private Ryan an American Propaganda film and uses Pro-America to an extreme in the film, so he can target his audience for $. Everyone hated that opinion in the thread.

CC
Original Italian Version:
Italian: LPCM 1.0
AVC-encoded

American Version
English: Dolby Digital 1.0
AVC-encoded

Packaging: The design is excellent. As far as I am concerned, the packaging is almost identical to that of the SDVD version of Playtime - it is solid, well designed and well crafted.

And a request: Could we focus on discussing cinema/films rather than reputation, etc.

Thanks for that bit of info. Did the English-language version make it to 1080p or only 1080i?

Whoa! Sounds like my craigslist suggestion worked out after all. Things sure do move quickly around these parts.

It really was ashame that The Thin Red Line came out the same year and wasn't very successful at the box office. The Thin Red Line was a vastly superior WWII film in every possible way. I'm really glad Criterion has picked it up.

I got it for telling someone who didn't like my opinion, "Hello there, Welcome to a forum." and this cool guy posted what is in my sig. People agree with me.

Sometimes I don't read this thread for a day or two, and when I return I think, "Wow, there must be some crazy exciting news for 19 new pages worth of posts". But then I skim through 18 and a half pages of it and say "oh yeah, just the same two people, just like the last time this happened".

Really sorry about that. But hey, no director dissing this time. I'll give you some rep points for your trouble.

Just like the post above me says; I am gone for a little while and CG is stirring it up again. I see the discussion is focusing on my favorite Criterion topic: The love and hate of Polymers. I needed a refresh on that and I am now good for another week.

BTW, CG, I agree, any Hopper film is a good thing for the collection. His influence on films, through his acting or directing has been very deserving of some sort of CC release. It was a sad day when he passed, but thankfully we have his work to remind us. (so ends my eulogy)

A Safe Place
Drive, He Said

Now on CriterionCast the rumors are saying:

this set will be out in November
It will be in the mainline
It will be on blu-ray

All I have to say is, I will be broke by just looking at the price of this. Big news I must say for Criterion to get these films. This is a dream.
Is the "Head" there talking about the Monkee movie? That's a true cult-classic directed by Jack Nichloson. Would love to replace my Rhino DVD.

Yes it is. Jack Nicholson has a hand in every movie listed but the Last Picture Show.
