I don't mind those, as they are plastic. I am really not happy with the paper case presentation Criterion is putting out.

Anyone seen The Long Day Closes? How would you rate it?
I'm eyeing to get it before BN sale ends.

I have seen Strange Days. I'm not sure I'd put it forward as one of Bigelow's best films. It's certainly kinetic and unique, with a fascinating relationship between Fiennes and Bassett at the center. It felt very similar to The Abyss, preaching social message on top of the A storyline. There was a special feature on the DVD, a 50 minute talk about how she executed the opening robbery scene, very interesting. But I wouldn't mind if this was her first title that entered the Criterion collection, or if it's another film that already has a blu-ray release. The only one really out of the question is Hurt Locker, since its rights as a best picture winner will not be released.

I'm going to B&N today to get some Criterion titles but I need some help. Point me in the direction of Wes Anderson films, what would be the 2 best films of his on Criterion. I have only seen two of his films, Fantastic Mr. Fox & The Grand Budapest Hotel.

These where at the top of my list today:

Life Aquatic
The Royal Tenenbaums

I know I'm missing more,

Thanks

The Double Life of Veronique.

Oh my god, this is an incredible film.

This will probably be put in my top 5, dare I say. The beautiful and haunting imagery, the bold colours, the tragic and beautiful soundtrack and the mystery makes this for me and unforgettable film which will require many revisits.

I can't get over how powerful and emotional this film is, its is my favourite work from this film maker, I just get it out of my head.

This is a must have film.

I think it was iScottie who recommended this and my god I am eternally thankful, I probably would have missed this had I not seen your post.

I agree.

There was an Instagram photo floating around of Criterion examining film strips of the movie, so hopefully it definitely is coming.

Not because its boring, crap or I didn't like it.

It is SO powerful, the imagery and the music - I have NOT heard music used in film this well and emotionally - TTOL had an incredible score but I think this beats it! which is a HUGE achievement in my eyes, it even beats The Great Beauty, and dare I say Koyaanisqatsi's soundtrack!

I really wasn't prepared of this and can't wait to get back into it, but had to stop to post this, the music is so powerful.

I don't think Three Colours had this effect on me, but will definitely revisit soon to see if they do.

But my god I have struck gold with this film.

Lacrimosa from Tree of Life was favourite piece of music used and was so powerful and just incredible, same composer so yeah my respect and passion for this composer has just reach extraordinary levels!

It's okay.

It's a semi-autobiographical film on Davies' own life, which is always nice to see. Film had a huge impact on him when he was growing up and he in turn pursued a career in such a field.

It's not a bad film, but I don't see much replay value in it. The editing style in the film is worth seeing it at least once, though. I would recommend renting it beforehand.

After reading the review for Bay of Angels (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Bay-o.../101199/#Forum) I would be very interested in picking up this film. (another reason was that the CC website listed Pale Flower as a similar film on their site) The problem is that I'm not interested in any of the other films from the set.

Hopefully, someone will break the set up and sell the films individually on ebay, or offer Bay of Angels up for trade or sale on our forum page.

One of mine now! Going to be watching this for days I think, so much to explore and learn, so exciting

Have you seen Amelie? Its has a similar feel and look to this film, albeit Amelie is more quirky and fun, but still some very close similarities.

The previous page of posts people were mentioning titles they would like to see be announced for October from Criterion and titles speculated / wished for were

Carnival of Souls, Fiend without a Face, Don't Look Now, among others.

Each October I actually hope for a Vampyre Blu upgrade. I am sure I am wrong this year also but I think it would look great in HD.

Carnival of Souls was hinted at (probably been a year almost?) So I could see that one getting a Blu upgrade.

I also think the Tati box set if it is announced for October I see it arriving the final week or saved for November. Criterion always drops a box set in time for the November Barnes 50% off sale.

For what it's worth, I saw both Lola and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg on TCM several months ago and I really, really, really enjoyed both of them. These two stand out as some of the best of all time from France, as well as the 1960s.

Yes, I have seen Amélie.

I have a hard time believing that somebody out there could not like the film. It's so happy and fun.

+1 from me too. It's Nic Roeg's best film (which is saying a lot). Walkabout has some of the most innovative editing (especially in the first few minutes) in cinematic history.

The Royal Tenebaums is a must, but I would go for Rushmore before Life Aquatic.
