Do you really think they'd released The Brood so close to the release of Scanners?

I know it's on Criterion itunes and a lot of those films get added to main collection.

It hasn't even been released in the cinemas in the UK yet, so tempted to do that myself.

I have over 30 MOC blu-rays and there has only been one bad film (which was Two-lane Blacktop, also released by Criterion). As a Hit vs Sh*t ratio, MOC is far better than Criterion...

But then again I like Mr Bean's Holiday, Rat Race and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, so my viewpoint is quite irrelevant

One source posted earlier this year said that it was confirmed to come later in the year. Another source that was just posted a few days ago said it was coming in October. If I was in charge, I would've released them together in the same month but it makes sense to release The Brood in October.

Hopefully The Brood has Cronenberg's other earlier film, Crimes of the Future, included with it.

Ah right, I'd love the brood to be a release :-) so here's hoping :-)

Watched Lacombe, Lucien today. Excellent film.
That is spot on my friend. I just couldn't connect with them in anyway.

And it has to be a digipak to match Scanners and the slipbox of Videodrome.

Part of the reason you receive so much negative response may be because you post like 50 times a day on this thread. Sometimes the thread reads like an "everything Polaroid thinks of in a day, plus a few other people's thoughts about Criterion" thread.

I'm not telling you to do things differently, just be aware that kind of bulk posting might continue to cause negative reactions towards your posts.

Exactly. Because of the lack of connection and ability to relate, I won't be inclined to revisit it.

Wow so it's negative to have an opinion and actively post on a a forum? And join discussion... Ok.

Guess I'll back off this thread and find somewhere else to post or talk about Criterions.

Also I see many many posts from same people day after day and they don't get any crap.

Is there any way of knowing if a DVD is going to be released onto blu-ray?

I want to get Good Morning and I'm wondering if I should get it now or wait a while and hope it comes out on blu-ray.

And the personal knee-jerk postings of "I just heard of this film--Is it good? Should I buy it? Answer the second question first! "
Which, after a fresh attack by the Blind-Buy Police, was starting to give blind buyers a convincingly bad name on the group, and gave Aid and Comfort to the Enemy.

And not to say "I told you so", BUT.
(I wasn't the one who brought up the A-word, but it's a distinguishing characteristic of that group of posters that when a few cute oddball posts start being cutely received, soon become big bulk blocks of daily posts with less and less point, and a few longtime posters start to complain specifically, the OP starts imagining that one or two mean people have it in for him personally, or are resentful of the warm, loving hugs he gets from "his" group. That's the problem with not being able to look at the Big Picture.)

Still, it's likely that "Sniffing Blu-rays" is going to find its way into being a running obsessive-fan joke in the group's vocabulary for the next few years...

I'm eyeing to get it before BN sale ends.
I just posted about this last week. I wasn't too crazy about the film but the biggest surprise for me was the new interview by Colin McCabe. You see, this is a distinguished film professor from my alma mater, PITT, where he taught classes when I was at school. I didn't at first realize it was the same "Colin McCabe", but I was quite surprised and happy to see he was included in the supplements on this disc, as he was a name I had seen while I was at my university studying film back in the turn of the century. Unfortunately, this deeply personal film by Terence Davies didn't really connect with me, but I did think the interview with Davies (from the South Bank show) and the McCabe interview were quite illuminating and engaging!

Yes, would love a nice SE region A release of The Brood. Scanners is OK, but The Brood is flat out creepy.

Eraserhead is going to be epic. Nice to get The Innocents on a region A BD.

I'm with you on this. It's not that I didn't care for it, I definitely saw the merit, it was easily my least favorite of the three Roeg films I've seen so far.

If you've seen the documentary "Not Quite Hollywood" on Australian cinema, there's some good Oz-eye view of both Walkabout and Picnic at Hanging Rock:
Walkabout is used as a symbol of the days when Australia didn't have a sense of its own cultural identity, and everyone else went around depicting Australia as one big uncivilized Outback of wilderness, wild animals and magic Aborigines, when it was a novelty not to set the same story in Africa.
While Picnic started the 70's stereotype of Australian cinema as the highbrow stuff of Masterpiece Theater, but from what we know about the country today, it's cynically joked about by the natives as if every other country judged US cinema by "Tree of Life".

I just finished Richard III.

It was my first entry into the Shakespeare universe, other than Kurosawa's Throne of Blood and some literary passage excerpts in high school.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the film, especially the first act. It was incredibly dark and foreboding for the entire duration. Throughout the film, I waffled back and forth between really enjoying it and finding some things to be a bit drawn out, but I was pleased with the finished product.

Olivier was phenomenal.

I'm with you on that. I thought the concept and bigger picture were nice, but overall, I found it to be a bore.

There are quite a few CC movies based on Shakespeare works. Kurosawa actually seemed to love making them.
