I know it's on Criterion itunes and a lot of those films get added to main collection. |

It hasn't even been released in the cinemas in the UK yet, so tempted to do that myself.
I have over 30 MOC blu-rays and there has only been one bad film (which was Two-lane Blacktop, also released by Criterion). As a Hit vs Sh*t ratio, MOC is far better than Criterion... But then again I like Mr Bean's Holiday, Rat Race and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, so my viewpoint is quite irrelevant ![]() |

Guess I'll back off this thread and find somewhere else to post or talk about Criterions. Also I see many many posts from same people day after day and they don't get any crap. Last edited by Polaroid; 07-13-2014 at 07:05 PM. |

That's the problem with not being able to look at the Big Picture.) Still, it's likely that "Sniffing Blu-rays" is going to find its way into being a running obsessive-fan joke in the group's vocabulary for the next few years... ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 07-13-2014 at 08:32 PM. |

I just posted about this last week. I wasn't too crazy about the film but the biggest surprise for me was the new interview by Colin McCabe. You see, this is a distinguished film professor from my alma mater, PITT, where he taught classes when I was at school. I didn't at first realize it was the same "Colin McCabe", but I was quite surprised and happy to see he was included in the supplements on this disc, as he was a name I had seen while I was at my university studying film back in the turn of the century. Unfortunately, this deeply personal film by Terence Davies didn't really connect with me, but I did think the interview with Davies (from the South Bank show) and the McCabe interview were quite illuminating and engaging!

I'm with you on this. It's not that I didn't care for it, I definitely saw the merit, it was easily my least favorite of the three Roeg films I've seen so far.

Walkabout is used as a symbol of the days when Australia didn't have a sense of its own cultural identity, and everyone else went around depicting Australia as one big uncivilized Outback of wilderness, wild animals and magic Aborigines, when it was a novelty not to set the same story in Africa. While Picnic started the 70's stereotype of Australian cinema as the highbrow stuff of Masterpiece Theater, but from what we know about the country today, it's cynically joked about by the natives as if every other country judged US cinema by "Tree of Life". |

I just finished Richard III.
It was my first entry into the Shakespeare universe, other than Kurosawa's Throne of Blood and some literary passage excerpts in high school. Overall, I rather enjoyed the film, especially the first act. It was incredibly dark and foreboding for the entire duration. Throughout the film, I waffled back and forth between really enjoying it and finding some things to be a bit drawn out, but I was pleased with the finished product. Olivier was phenomenal. |
