Since it has been almost a year since the last Ozu upgrade was announced, I would not be surprised to see another one announced soon, especially with so many of his films available on blu in other countries. That being said, i dont know how Criterion prioritizes them. Good Morning, Floating Weeds/Story Of, Early Summer, The Only Son/There Was A Father, and An Autumn Afternoon are all possible (Although maybe source limitations for The Only Son/There Was A Father?).

He didn't. He did 3 of them and the 4th being a non-Kurosawa release

The list was just of CC Films, the note about Kurosawa was a different through.

My personal favorite Shakespeare adaptation so far is Titus (1999). It doesn't seem to get too much love though.

I was going to say I preferred Ian McKellen's Nazi-jacketed Richard III to snooty old Olivier's, but didn't think it fit the CC discussion.

It's Tough-love: Just because we respond to a certain number of posts because the topic might be respondable, doesn't mean we're your Magic Electronic Friends on the other side of the screen who'll talk to you all day in lieu of human contact.
The rule of forums is, if you've got something to say, say it, but that's pretty heavily emphasizing IF.

The underrated (or at least VERY seldom mentioned) All Night Long is another one that I forgot to mention. The Private Life of Henry VIII might count as well but I don't know much about the Shakespeare play to say that for sure.

Thank you for the info. I saw the Good Morning was available in other countries on blu-ray, so fingers crossed Criterion will update theirs soon.

Sorry, but that's the way I see it anyway.
Seriously what is up with the dickish posts today and ganging up on this guy? He is obviously a fan of Criterion, I mean look, he does not even live in North America, has to import these films at likely a hefty price, has access to other labels good to great labels in his region but chooses to purchase Criterion instead.

I think it is cool and he is supporting a label we all like. Not only that, but he is expressing his feelings in a pro-criterion thread. He has also become a very prolific poster in this thread in a short time and like other great posters here (Great Owl, iScottie), he takes the time to share his feelings with these films in a thoughtful and intelligent way.

Honestly what is wrong with some of you people?

He's already emphasized in his first post that he's not...quite...the same as you or I, and he's posting looking for those who are equally obsessive--literally--about it as he is. And frankly, nobody COULD be.

You don't help someone with therapy by giving them a safe place and letting them hide in it forever. It's nice if they like Criterion, yes, but it would be nicer if they could use that conversational opener to learn how to relate to the world of human conversation again.
Like, "Know when to quit", or "Know when the crowd's starting to get ugly", which is one of the social awarenesses his particular condition doesn't allow for.
(Y'know, I used to be able to call these things just by the style of posting, but it was nice of him to volunteer the information straight off the bat.)

A release of The Brood would be wonderful! The iTunes version looked pretty good when I watched it - so I'd love to see the blu version. Here are a few iTunes (highlight) caps if anyone's interested:
EDIT: don't look at these unless you've seen the movie!
http://moabon.com/img/criterion/brood/ (each file ~3MB)

Also, since I wanted an easy way for me to work out which Criterions were out there and how I could watch them (that doesn't involve Wikipedia!), I compiled a colour-coded spreadsheet which I thought I'd share in case anyone else finds it useful. It has all the titles numbered by [DVD/BD] spine and coloured by availability (DVD, BD, HD iTunes and whether they're OOP or not). It's also interesting to see which catalogue titles are in HD on iTunes that haven't made it to BD yet (coloured GREEN): unlike Hulu's streaming, the iTunes availability suggests to me a possible future BD release from Criterion, since it shows an HD transfer and a licence to sell. Below the latest announced spine (#728) are a number of titles that are in HD on iTunes that don't have a spine number....yet. The Brood is one of those.

(there's a .ods spreadsheet, openable in all major office suites, and a .pdf of the spreadsheet)

This is why Canada>America

The only reason to be annoyed with Polaroid is because he bought the Zatoichi set for £5, otherwise he hasn't annoyed me at all. People on some of these forums need to chill out.

Glad you enjoyed Cedar-Lee. It's not the biggest place but some of its theaters have high-back chairs. Incredibly comfortable!
