If the discs are okay you could just get your roommate to replace the packaging. Criterion charge $5 for the artwork, and $5 for the booklet.

Criterions are really valuable, both sentimentally and in $$$, so if I had them packed up in boxes, I an would put them somewhere away from the roommates walking traffic areas, like somewhere in my bedroom or a closet or something.

Seriously though, that really sucks. And in my experience from my roommate days (years ago), it is very difficult to get a roommate to come up with money that they owe you for bills and food, let alone damaged merchandise. I hope it works out for you though, and hopefully you retire from your roommate career soon.

You mean we can buy those seperately?
I have my Double Vie de Veronique with a bit of a rip on the booklet.
(it was like this when i opened it).
Can I substitute it? How can I do it?

Send an email to orders@criterion.com and they'll sort you out.

Also for those who've bought L'ecclise. Criterion are now offering replacements for DVD Disc 1. The incorrect disc has the commentary for Riot in Cell Block 11 instead of L'ecclise.

E-mail mulvaney@criterion.com if you want one.

I live in Europe though. Do they send internationally? Because I know you can't buy Blurays from their shop.

My November predictions:

Limelight
Hellman's Westerns Box Set
Tootsie
L'Avventura (upgrade)
Bergman's Faith Trilogy Box Set (upgrade)

If the Hellman set does come out in November (all but confirmed by Hellman himself), based on the current newsletter-to-release turnaround schedule we can expect It Happened One Night in December.

I'm still holding out hope for one more Kurosawa upgrade this year (preferably either Ikiru or The Bad Sleep Well), but it's beginning to seem like more and more of a long shot.

+1 for this. Would also love to see "A Canterbury Tale" upgrade as well at some point.

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

I know this isn't criterion related but it is classic film oriented. In a nearby cinema they are doing a screening of The Godfather II and I'm thinking about going to see it tonight. There's a lull in the thread conversation so this seems to be a perfect time to discuss this. I hope you guys aren't angered by this post.

The 1960s has the clear edge in my Blu-ray collection, thanks in part to the Zatoichi set, the Jacques Demy set, and the America Lost and Found: The BBS Story set. I've also got a ton of individual Criterion titles from that decade. The 1940s and 1950s are also represented quite wonderfully under my roof.

That's pretty funny. I can imagine the first customer being completely perplexed when he started listening to the commentary and things didn't sync up with L'Eclisse. Interestingly enough, I don't think I'll even bother, as that DVD will probably never be spun and read for the movie itself, let alone the commentary track.
