You can still use the sorry30 code that is on the forum deal section, but not such a great deal taking in account shipping and taxes (and that the next flash sale is probably very soon), unless you order the few $18.99 titles or Red River and On the Waterfront which are $23.99.

I like checking out CriterionForum for their DVD reviews. This release got good marks there as well as a few other places. CC has always put a good foot forward to offer a great presentation and even though we now have a blu-ray, having both L'Avventura and L'Eclisse in my collection for only $15.99 makes me .
I've been looking every day almost for low-priced L'Eclisse,,, nice score, quite jealous.

If you want a fun Halloween treat, then watch L'Eclisse, and immediately follow it up with the Vincent Price film, The Last Man on Earth.

Trust me on this.

Watched Tess for the first time today. Beautiful film. Slightly long, especially towards the end, but a stunning film nonetheless.

I don't agree at all. I think Dune is an abysmal piece of work, and the longer cut is even worse.

Probably only if you really like Jodorowsky's work.

No, I'm talking for mass audiences... because after I saw the documentary called Jodorowsky's Dune, I realized just how epic this could have been. Make sure you watch this if you haven't and you'll see what I mean too : https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Jodor...lu-ray/102188/

I totally agree with your statement.

I found out about Jodorowsky's Dune about 4 years ago, before the documentary was in production. I mentioned about this nonexistent Dune on this thread about four years ago also (citing the Empire magazine article), at the same time clashing heads with the Lynch cult members in the thread (I argued how weak in scope his Dune film truly is).

Anyone who has seen the documentary would honestly agree that Jodorowsky's Dune would of been by far the better version. The actors and production team involved were some of best artists of the history of the film industry. Dan O'Bannon, Jean Giraud (a.k.a Moebius), Dali, Giger, Orson Welles and a soundtrack by Pink Floyd. If you anything about art, you would definitely recognize these names.

And Pink Floyd were at their peak just around that time with Dark Side of the Moon coming out in the mid 1970s. This would have truly been an amazing film but sometimes those amazing films are just too great for the human race to understand and experience and thus they are never produced. But just seeing Salvador Dali and Mick Jagger in this film would have been mind-blowing (and yes, you forgot to mention Jagger).

My top 10 David Lynch films are:

1. Blue Velvet
2. Mulholland Drive
3. The Straight Story
4. The Elephant Man
5. Eraserhead
6. Inland Empire
7. Lost Highway
8. Wild at Heart
9. Dune
10. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

ps. I have a hankering to see The Elephant Man again (been like 15 years since I saw it)
FWWM below Dune? Interesting choices, I still need to see The Elephant Man and The Straight Story, but if I had to rank everything else it'd probably go:

1. Mulholland Drive
2. Inland Empire
3. Blue Velvet
4. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
5. Eraserhead
6. Lost Highway
7. Wild At Heart

8. Dune

It may have been a very good film, but I was a teenager who had just read the book at the time, and I know I would have hated it even more than I hate the Lynch version.

I enjoyed the documentary, and it was an amazing collection of people involved, but the changes to the story would have been tough to handle. Maybe by now in that alternate universe I would be able to separate the movie from the book, but not then.

I liked Straight Story a lot, although the license he took with geography really bothered me at times.

I had to put FWWM below Dune only because the TV series is vastly superior and its almost like an easy movie to make based on what really is the classic, that is Twin Peaks. And I suppose Twin Peaks could be his greatest work, moreso than any of his films. FWWM is totally an unnecessary film, however, fans probably appreciated it at the time. But I gotta give his version of Dune more props because it was the first and original movie named Dune which makes it slightly more original than FWWM. I think my reasons are justified.

I personally rank the two pretty equally. I love how the film delved into the darkest aspects of the show; it's the closest Lynch has come to making a pure horror film.
Dune does deserve praise for it's production design and ambition, but it really felt like a muddled mess when I saw it. Perhaps a rewatch may help.

Just finished a rewatch of 8 1/2, and just like all great films I got something new out of it.
I was also left wondering whether Fellini's portrayal of women is vaguely sexist, or more a satire of his shallow male protagonist's view of women. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It took me about 3 nights but I finally got through all the supplements on Stagecoach (except for re-watching the film with commentary on). There were some fantastic supplements here and for me the Peter Bogdanovich interview was the highlight. I also really liked the Yakima Canutt (stunt man) feature and the feature on Harry Goulding who helped secure Monument Valley for John Ford and crew to shoot in, making Stagecoach the very first "A" movie Western that used real location shooting as opposed to back lots in LA. It's also of course a "psychological Western" as Bogdanovich stated and I even found out that it influenced that scene with Vic Armstrong (stunt double for Harrison Ford) in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark when he slid underneath the truck, like Canutt slid underneath the horses and carriage in Stagecoach. What a truly amazing stunt.

Bogdanovich was definitely right though about John Ford giving difficult interviews. He wasn't a likable fellow and he was quite guarded in that he didn't want any bad things or faults about him being publicized as an authority figure. He didn't like questions on politics (yet, Ford seemed to want to talk about British politics and culture). He didn't wish to give social commentary. He didn't want to answer much of anything if it didn't have to do with movies. He had no comment whenever issues on racism and genocide were brought up. It was frankly tedious watching the 72 minute BBC interview of John Ford and at times I wished the interviewer/s could have used some serious intuition to change the subject or question because they should have sensed Mr. Ford wouldn't answer or go into "lucid" detail as he liked to say.

In any case, I learned who Harry Goulding was, as well as Yakima Canutt tonight. Two heroes in their own right.

I feel like I could get this answer quicker in here than the Deals Forum.
How often does Costco switch out their Criterions? Went yesterday hoping for The Innocents, didn't have it yet, but did have All That Jazz.
