Hello Judex,

I don't have a screener, but since there is interest in a review, I will purchase the disc on my own. I would like to see the exclusive interview as well.

Speaking of exclusive content, there are plenty of exclusive bonus features on the Criterion release, but plenty of the old content is missing. If you love the film, I encourage you to pick up the Black LE DVD edition from Kino Lorber. It has fantastic bonus features.

I also have the Australian release (should we post a review) which has different bonus features, and the French release from Pathe, but the bonus features on it are not subtitled in English so it isn't good for this site.

Great point. There's actually quite a lot of Play of the Day presentations that would be grand in the collection. Since we're talking fantasy island stuff, can I mention Brownlow's Hollywood?

OT, but your comment made me wonder what a version of Se7en, but with each sin "tableaux" directed by someone different would be like.

It would surely be awful and probably nearly incoherent, but it could also be interesting. Heh.

Yeah, and/or Eight Men Out and Matewan, Limbo & Roan Inish would look awesome in HD. I asked Sayles about physical media, but didn't get an encouraging response.

This Australian would love to hear how the Aus release is - I don't need a full review though if you just want to say generally?

How did you ask him? Via email?

Funny how he doesn't seem to care about his films being on blu-ray. (or maybe he can't find a distributor)

I've been dreaming and fantasizing about After Hours being on blu-ray and to have it in the Criterion Collection would be beyond mind-blowing. This is a film I could watch over and over again.

That would be Koch Lorber, formerly Fox Lorber, now owned by Entertainment One. As far as I know, there's no relation between the Lorber of Fox/Koch Lorber and the Lorber of Kino Lorber.

I have Koch Lorber's "2-Disc Collector's Edition" of LDV from 2004. I don't get to sell it off when I get the Criterion BD because of all the nice extras it has.

As suggestions for the TV show rumor, I could see a selections from The Wednesday Play coming to the collection. Though it would be silly that it wouldn't have Cathy Come Home (as it is a bonus on Kes).

Ed,

The value is in the supplemental features. I really enjoy archival content and there are some interesting bits on this disc. Also, the Magic of Fellini documentary with Martin Scorsese and Donald Sutherland is on the disc.

You are welcome, Adam. I view this film frequently and like archival content so I've acquired a couple of different editions (I have some overseas DVD releases as well, but not all are subtitled).

Excellent post, iScottie.

Blind Chance is a new 2K restoration, which was screened at Cannes. I did not attend the screening, but a colleague saw it and he was very happy with the end result.

From this list (see below) the big restorations are all heading to Blu-ray:

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=13861

Most already have preliminary dates. The Color of Pomegranate (4K restoration) and The B i t c h will be terrific to finally see restored. As far as the former is concerned, it is probably a good idea to pick up the Axiom release because the commentary and Daniel Bird's documentary are very good.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=214526

As far as Kieslowski is concerned, these two films will be upgraded on the other side of the Atlantic. At some point I would expect to see local releases as well

I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932)
Blonde Crazy (1931)
Baby Face (1933)
Night Nurse (1931)
Illicit (1931)
Three on a Match (1932)
The Doorway to Hell (1930)
Footlight Parade (1933)
...and a few others

Convention City (1933) was supposedly lost forever, but it would be a major coup for Criterion if a surviving print were to be found.

At any rate, I'd love to see some early Barbara Stanwyck or early Joan Blondell in the Collection.
I want Freaks.

By the by, while we're all waiting for a Blu-ray of this (or any other Preston Sturges film) let it be known that a Blu-ray of Mitchell Leisen's Remember the Night -- which Sturges wrote -- is coming out on Blu-ray from the TCM Vault Collection in just a few weeks.

They mentioned pre-code Warner Bros. again. They've been hinting at this for a few years now, but nothing seems to materialize.

Excited about the Kieslowski stuff, Lynch, Kiarostami...the Wexner chats are always good for some treats.

And the picutre of the cover for Grande Illusion was for the art book, it is now apparent, so maybe we should remove that.
