See, now, on a different subject I'm in this situation. Band of Outsiders is $25 at Amazon, but $32 at Criterion. If I get it from Criterion, I'm gaining points, though I'm SO far away since I just joined. But if I get it from Amazon, it's $7 cheaper. Same with Weekend.

Arg.

And I will then have all the Criterion Blus of Godard, except for Pierrot le Fou, which is OOP and costs about $100.
If you wait a few weeks you can get them for $20, $18, or less from B&N.

Ugh. That's all I need: Another account!

ETA: Screw it. I just ordered from Amazon, since I already pay them for free shipping and will now get these Friday. Now, if I can find Pierrot le fou for less than, say, $50, I'll be in business. Yeah, right.

I can't believe you only saw Jean! They've been on TV a couple times in the past year back to back. While separate films, they really both have to be seen to complete the story. It'd be like reading half of a novel!
i don't live in USA, and I don't have a TV.
Even if I had, I wouldn't watch films on TV.

anyway, it's not like I won't watch it ever. I was about to this summer, but didn't eventually.. Now, I'll wait for the Shout Factory release to buy.

Returning to Criterion wishlists:
How could I forget The Age of Innocence??
I would LOVE a Criterion of it!

I avoid films on TV - adverts ruin the suspense and the film and they always put the adverts at annoying/awkward times - also quality is never amazing and a few i've seen have been cut or edited and ruins it lol

I saw it earlier this year and it has really stuck with me - beautiful and heartbreaking. great Criterion fodder if they so choose to pursue it.
"The Elephant Man" has been available in the UK and France on blu-ry for a while (region A and B) though Brooks has said he was working on a "Brooks Films" box set

It's also only $10 AUD (even less in USD) from umbrella directly:

I'd be interested in seeing you post a review for it Pro-B. It was only $11.30 shipped for me in AUS so I went ahead and grabbed it for the additional special features not on Criterion's.
Looks like more extras than Criterion, unfortunately it is $10 shipping to USA

Since I live in a different timezone, the announcement is supposed to be in about 3-4 hours from now?

or...

you can ditch your loyalty to Criterion and pick up Pierrot le Fou and Last Year at Marienbad via their UK region free Studio Canal releases which have received really good reviews on this site and others on the net.

then..

commission me to buy your blu-rays for you and you'll save a ton of cash. $25 for a release that has been out forever is too much.

How cool would it be if The Faith Trilogy was upgraded?

By the way, I have a feeling that announcements will be pushed back.

I looked into that. Trust me.

But the Criterion release of Last Year at Marienbad on DVD is AMAZING! I can only just imagine what it would look like on BD. And Pierrot le Fou would fit perfectly with the others I have.

I know, it's collecter-y. I get it. But, for example, if I have Breathless, Band of Outsiders, Vivre sa vie, and Weekend all from Criterion, then I want the others from Criterion too. I want them all to look nice on the shelf next to each other. Yes, it's stupid.

Of course, I still need Alphaville and A Woman is a Woman.

comparatively speaking, LY@M is darker in the CC release. I don't know what is right or not, but I actually prefer the brighter screen caps.

just to play devil's advocate and not so much to give you crap , what are you planning to do about the Godard releases that aren't out through CC? like Une Femme Mariee? it's bound to look scatter shot on your shelves no matter what you do.

Last Year at Marienbad has to be the biggest mind**** of a film.

I have not seen a film prior to my viewing or after it that left me feeling quite the same.

Pray?

No, seriously, I've given that thought. I'm not sure. My collection, both DVDs and BDs, is a complete mess right now. My whole idea while I was collecting DVDs was to organize by director. And that worked great when I had 20 or 50 or even 100.

But now it's a total mess. The upgrades that I'm giving to the library are leaving huge wholes. My Criterion section is totally messed up. And I've been thinking for months how exactly I want to organize this whole fiasco.

So, trust me: I have no idea how to answer your question.

It's pretty incredible even by Criterion standards. The first time I put it in I hit stop less than two minutes in because I knew immediately I didn't want to view it under anything less than optimal conditions (I think it was early evening and my room was still fairly bright).

Agreed, 100%. And whatever people think of the film in general (and I do understand the people who say that it's nonsense), it's one of the most beautiful films ever made IMO.

I really think of them as two parts of one story, the same way as I think of Jan Troell's The Emigrants and The New Land as two parts of the same story. When I rented Jean and Manon years ago, they were packaged together. I can't imagine Jean without Manon. The story would just seem incomplete.

Catching up on all the news from last night. Very excited about the likelihood of Mulholland Drive, Moonrise Kingdom(have held off on the current release) and especially The New World all arriving in 2015. The New World is my second favorite Malick after The Tree of Life, and it's another title I've held off on because I'm even not sure which is the definitive version of this movie, and still have never seen the extended cut actually. The dvd release of the theatrical cut was one of my most watched dvds. Visual poetry I could get swept up in over and over again.

I hear ya... that's part of the fun, though. I only have BoO on DVD. (I didn't think the blu was a significant enough upgrade) it sat w/ the rest of my Godards on my blu-ray shelf until just recently when I moved it to my slowly accumulating collection of Criterion DVDs bought on the cheap

complex decisions.. I've got other little projects too that have come about just from being a fan. I'm rather proud of my Jules and Jim custom cover that I edited through MS Paint. it's just the old DVD cover, but the back now has all of the 2014 specs. (it's the 2014 DVD release inside)
