That Lady Snowblood one seems really obvious since not only is there a drawing of the character but she's next to a pile of snow with blood on it, I am surprised people thought it was Nausicaa or Barbarella! Especially considering Nausicaa is locked in the jaws of Disney :P Lady Snowblood is sort of surprising, though, even though they've released a ton of samurai movies. It's so...pulpy. I got the Arrow bluray a year ago on a whim and didn't really like it that much.

Looks pretty dead on to me. And it is another Wes Anderson... just hate that I already have the current blu-ray release.

Yeah, same here. I love the movie but I don't think I'm going to bother upgrading the current blu-ray, it looks fine and the Criterion extras for Wes Anderson movies usually don't interest me anyway.

The woman has numerous guns around her. It's gotta be Gun Crazy.

I would be very happy with a moonrise release this year. If past years are any indication we should see it between May and August. Criterion likes putting out Wes in the summer.

So it's been 3 straight years of Anderson releases? With two last year.

I was not sure whether or not those were guns, but, is so, then Gun Crazy would make sense, and it would explain the high heels that the woman in the picture is wearing.

Gun Crazy is a Warner title that looks great on DVD, and there's an import Blu-ray of the movie that reportedly looks good. I'd love to see Criterion release it, although my first guess would be that Warner would release it in the same way that they released Out of the Past.

That's one of my favorite films, one I've watched maybe a dozen times (at least four times on the big screen), and as a matter of fact, I was just checking on it's availability last night because I was thinking of sending a copy to a friend of mine who's under the weather!

What is it ... "if you kiss under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset your love will be true forever ..."? Great film with a delightfully hammy performance by Laurence Olivier!

The rose is clearly a clue for Lilies of the Field. Yes, sir. You heard it here first.

Btw, why waste a clue on Wes Anderson film? We already knew it's coming. And WB would never license Gun Crazy.

All these guesses are nice, but you are missing the obvious one that is comprised of multiple clues...the people with knives (Slaughter), the building in the background (House), and the hands of the clock at one and four (Five). Slaughterhouse Five. Don't care if it is WB.

Just a FYI, (supposedly) Wes Anderson has it in his contract to have his films appear in the Criterion Collection. Just mentioning it for those who are disappointed in buying his original releases and feeling cheated/slighted when CC announces their version -or- for those wondering why his movies keep showing up every year over other films/directors.

Thanls for reminding me of that, had forgotten about that. However, I figured with the regular blu-ray release, he wouldn't be doing a Criterion release for Moonrise Kingdom. Oh well... not a big deal.

And I still haven't picked up Fantastic Mr. Fox. I want it, but the case is so big, it just irks me. I know that's a terrible reason not to buy it, but everytime I pick it up I just say, "why so big?" I guess it's the booklet, but still...

I expect the second pressing of Fox will be in a standard case, I expect that with the other dual format releases as well. Except if they came with a book.

well, that thing next to the Nausicaa woman, could also be not an individual clue but linked to the woman!!!

Quote:
Although I am not convinced she is Barbarella, if you view this female figure withinin that context, then the badly-rendered ground goop to her right could be the Mathmos. Mathmos being the steaming lava-like weird plasma-ness which figures significantly into the second half of the Vadim film. For that matter, it could also be the hole in the ice floes of the Forrest of Weir beyond SoGo where Barbarella uses her "terra-screw" to avoid crashing. I am trying to avoid convincing myself that these are correct guesses because I can't imagine that Paramount would let Criterion have this.
