Just by looking at what some of the more visible mouthpieces on each side of the aisle have had to say about the film (Bill Maher, Seth Rogen, Michael Moore, and Howard Dean from the left, and the always lovable Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh from the right), and considering most Americans are too lazy/stupid to form their own opinions and just regurgitate whatever they hear on CNN/MSNBC/Fox News/etc., it's a safe bet their political parties influence their opinion on the film, so I guess it's less of a "feeling" and more simple deduction.

Hitchcock's comments on it in Truffaut's Hitchcock book are interesting: he says that it's hard to understand for non-Catholics that someone who hears something in confession can't reveal it, leading some (maybe contemporary viewers or critics) to question the plausibility of the plot, seeing as that, and the guilt over what has been heard, is what it hinges on. |

But I'd go with the last one posted (for both), I think.-..or maybe,...wait..... ![]() Also agreed, you seriously should get "drafted", maybe floating your works to the "insider discussion" thread would do no harm? I've no idea btw about if/which "industry insiders" paying any attention there, just throwing in. Last edited by Tuco_76; 01-29-2015 at 04:35 PM. |

![]() TBH I don't know how comfortable I would be designing for Criterion, I have huge amount of respect for them and for their designers. I really don't think I'm at their standard tbh - I'm not fishing for compliments. But thats one of the reasons I left my last job as a Designer because I didn't feel confident in myself lol. I did share on Criterion's Facebook to see other peoples opinions ![]() Seems silly to waste my degree though.... hmm lol, plus I'm only posting these as a hobby/passion and to share with others :P Although if I was to ever design for Criterion i'd be extremely honoured and proud of myself lol - they can have any of my designs if they like em :P I did some rough Dancer in the Dark ones last night, I don't think I have really represented the film well tbh but they are just original ideas lol. Plus I think the blurred/grainy image and the Braile is a littttttle cliche but as I said they are just rough ideas lol. Hard to find decent screen grabs for Dancer due to the transfer quality lol ![]() ![]() (alternate of the above one, only minor change to image) [Show spoiler] I prefer the second shown as it reflects the intimate time with have with her character, the slight graininess and distorted image reflect the idea of not seeing things perfectly, it shows the flaws which Selma has many of. I like the image because it shows slight happiness in her face, which is a huge thing the character tries to achieve even thought he darkest of times. There is still some hope in her expression. Also great to see all the love for Under The Skin! allllsooooo Any fans of Philip Glass - he is scoring the new Fantastic Four film! (not sure how I feel about the film itself, but the score will make it worth it) - also the trailer uses some music from Broadchurch by Olafur Arnalds. He created an incredible score for Another Happy Day! Just thought id share! Last edited by Polaroid; 01-29-2015 at 11:49 AM. |

I read Kosinski's 'The Painted Bird' last night. I felt like I was punishing my sense of decency with every turn of a page, but I couldn't put it down. The hazy, detached atmosphere, sparse dialogue, and mentally taxing, sadistic story all seem like they would lend themselves well to an art house film adaptation.
I also wondered what director it would take to ensure any translation to film would eventually get the "Criterion" treatment, and thought Louis Malle would have done an exceptional job with it based on his brilliant work with capturing the loss of the child leads' youthful innocence in 'Murmur of the Heart' and 'Au Revoir Les Enfants', and the somewhat minimalist dialogue of the latter. Though he would have almost certainly toned down the sadomasochistic tendencies of 'The Painted Bird', I think he could still create the same atmosphere as in the book. I'm curious if anyone else had a book/story/subject matter that they would like to see get turned into a movie that was unique enough to get the Criterion treatment. Also, who would you want attached to direct your project? Last edited by WonderWeasel; 01-29-2015 at 12:06 PM. |

I'm not sure who I'd want to direct it though... ![]() Other books I would like The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night Time, Lynne Ramsays adaptation of 'Moby Dick' and also Catcher in the Rye. |

I read years ago, but I remember it being pretty dark and at times hard to read, but it was worth it. I think theft its based on truth is what is more heart breaking.

I have seen the film only once in my childhood and I don't remember anything. oh, and I would love a Criterion too of the other recently restored film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939). |

You don't think Mr & Mrs Smith is lower tier? I do. In any case, I would love to see ANY HITCHCOCK film not on blu-ray already get a release. The clue points to I Confess more than The Wrong Man.

Earlier, someone mentioned wanting to purchase a certain title during the next FoxConnect sale. They're having a 50% flash sale right now. I don't know if it includes what the OP was interested in, but thought I'd throw a "heads up" out to the group. The sale code is:

Has stunning imagery and soundtrack. All depends if you like Wong Kar-Wai films. If you do, it's a no brainer as it's one of his best. The CC release is OOP so it's easy to sell if you don't like it.
