Their showing started with him right before he leaves his residence through the attempted suicide and even says "Fine" (30 minutes in, roughly) before then cutting to him claiming to be sick. This felt really out of place to me, but having not seen the film I went with it. But then after 30 minutes the film started to repeat scenes again, with the entire last 30 minutes being a repeat of the first. I'm pretty sure I missed the first third of it.

While out used movie hunting this weekend, I came across a copy of Laurence Olivier's 'Richard III' marked as a used DVD instead of a blu-ray for $15 I've never gotten into Shakespeare much aside from what I was made to read in school, but I've been meaning to, so I blind bought it and actually enjoyed it a lot.

There was another Shakespeare film adaptation at the store that I was curious about: Roman Polanski's 'Macbeth'. Has anyone here seen it? Should I watch it or the Orson Welles one first?

Polanski's film is quite excellent. It feels less stagebound and has a fair amount of gore in it. Perhaps for chronology's sake, you could see the Welles film first and then Polanski. In case you haven't already, you could also look at Kurosawa's Macbeth adaptation Throne of Blood.

I agree with you. Actually,
[Show spoiler]the whole viewing experience made me feel dirty and I had a hard time feeling sympathy for any of the characters. Well, I did feel bad for the little boy at the end.
I think that Satyajit Ray's The Music Room is a better depiction of how a family that is rich and/or has high class/social status begins to decay over time.

It's funny that you mention this, because I had a similar conversation with a French pal last year. I'd never picked up on anything myself (my french is good, but not great) and have celebrated his complete body of work for as long as I've been aware of it. My friend tho, while fond of Leaud for who he is and what he means to French cinema, considers him to be a technically poor actor.

Not seen the Orson Welles one - but I loved Polanski's take on the story

Apologies if this has already been pointed out, but if it has I missed it! The Soft Skin has added “Monsieur Truffaut Meets Mr. Hitchcock” to its supplements. It's a 30-minute long doc. The Soft Skin is an excellent film and this is shaping up to be a fantastic edition.

I know that would happen to me so I just copied it all into a spreadsheet, and marked those I saw, then used a counta formula. Yeah, i'm a geek.

I'm working my way through his films on the list right now and it's so exciting. I've got Goodbye South Goodbye, The Puppetmaster and Flowers of Shanghai left. City of Sadness was overwhelming and incredible.

I have seen 224 from that list. Not even a quarter.

While scrolling through there were a great amount that I wanted/needed to see and even some that I've had and have on my DVR or on Blu-ray but haven't watched, argh!

I was surprised to see some cult films like Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill! and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls on there when there are definitely better films that missed the cut.
