Excellent news about the Lady Snowblood films! Wow, couldn't have gone to a better NA distributor. That's an announcement that gets me excited, been wanting to dig into Meiko Kaji's filmography for years, and with this and Arrow's releases of Blind Woman's Curse and the Stray Cat Rock Collection, 2015 is proving to be quite a year for her in the U.S. Hopefully we'll see a Yojimbo/Sanjuro style box set in October or November. As others have mentioned, we just need the Female Convict Scorpion films to come out on Blu-ray.

Honestly at this point I'm wondering if Blue is the Warmest Color's Special Edition won't come out for another 2-3 years, maybe to allow some distance not only from the current barebones release but also from the film for the actresses who didn't enjoy the experience.

Cameron teals up his films, there were 2 versions of French Connection approved by Friedkin, so with all these changes we won't know in a few years, what were the original colors of the films. Anyway, back to criterion announcements discussion! Still curious if one of them is New World, what cut(s) will it include! |

Because I already bought the UK editions of The Adventures of Antoine Doniel, Rosselini's War Trilogy and pre-ordered the Dreyer box Set, I'm sure one of those will be released. There's so many titles already out in Europe that Criterion has the rights to - Shoot the Piano Player, Thief of Bagdad, The Killers (both versions), Bernard's Wooden Crosses & Les Miserables, Scenes From a Marriage, Pickup on South Street coming in August - that you have to think all these will eventually be upgraded. But really, IMO, Criterion should try to get them out close to the same time, or they are just losing sales to the people who import and don't want to wait several years to get this stuff in HD.

Thief of Bagdad would make for a great summer release.

I think comparing old DVDs to blu-rays is never a good idea anyways.

The way that I figure it, many theatrical showings of movies probably do not display the movies in the way that was intended by the filmmakers, due to projector lighting, environment, and such, so I won't get my butt in a blender if a movie happens to have a slight color teal on the high definition presentation. The director's approval for the Criterion Blu-ray of Badlands is good enough for me. I'm also perfectly content with the Criterion Blu-ray of Le Cercle Rouge, although the color timing on the Studiocanal disc is widely considered to be more accurate to the intent of the filmmakers. I currently own 1006 movies on Blu-ray, and I can count on one hand the number of times when I was underwhelmed by the high definition presentation of a movie. I even have a couple of fingers to spare on that one hand. |

Oh my god?!?! That's been my number ONE request for years now.
That would be a pleasant surprise. Or In the Bedroom, but it's a Miramax title so probably not likely. =/ Todd Field needs to make more films! |
