Has anyone seen it? Do you think it's a film that Criterion could release, rights wise?
(1) I haven't seen it, though I would like to.

(2) The theatrical version was distributed here in the US by Samuel Goldwyn, and I don't know if they still own the NA rights or not.

(3) Actually, your previous post made me think that I'd like to see an upgrade for Scenes from a Marriage.

Some website last year (I forget which) accurately predicted about 3-4 titles and also listed Mulholland Drive. To my knowledge, MD is still the only one not announced that they mentioned. Time Bandits, Fisher King and a couple others were on the list, and i think La Dolce Vita.

Pipe Dream: box set with Lost Highway, Inland Empire and Mulholland Drive.

After Hours is a Geffen Comp. release thru Warner Bros so there could have been a deal for it made esp with Geffen / Scorsese and WB to make everyone happy. This movie is long over due on Blu and such an underrated dark comedy. Love it.

I think it's just jumping through hoops to get a title, not impossible. The talk of a "deal" was obviously misleading.

They've licensed more than that when the Shout Factory MST3K DVDs are taken into account.

Even on Blu-ray there is also Shout licensing the quality elements for The House on Haunted Hill from WB for the Vincent Price box.

How do we know that they did so begrudgingly?

They've licensed some other TV titles for DVD, as well. Max Headroom to Shout Factory, and Get Smart, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and China Beach to Time-Life (which, oddly enough, is not part of the Time Warner empire).

Nevertheless, getting something out of Warner is like pulling teeth.

Speaking of Badlands, here's an interesting article about teal on Blurays and generally alterations on classic films, that refers to Badlands too:

Nobody is immune: bottom is Criterion’s Blu-ray release of the Terrance Mallick approved transfer of Badlands

These may seem like small things, but are damaging when placing a film in a historical context, especially when the original sound design was Oscar winning. The sad thing is that in a hundred years time, the only copy of Badlands in existance may be the Criterion Blu-ray.
well, if the colors on the top image aren't that way because they are faded but becasue they are the original colors, then i see a huge revisionism that alters the aesthetics of the film completely.

I agree.
Between new films that I'm not interested and upgrades I am interested, I choose the latter!

I can't really give that website any merit due to misspelling Malick's name as well as existence.

Edit: And on a second glance Terrence as well

Agreed. There are a lot of great Criterions I haven't bought because I'm holding out for the blu ray version. As far as I'm concerned, a blu ray release of any of those titles would be as good as "new."

I think a member here runs that blog. I seem to remember a similar rant about teal and orange being posted in the movies section, and everywhere else.

The blog post itself seems terribly underwritten and un cited, therefore not a reliable source of information.

I see what the main problem is what that article:

"But the worst problem is the directors themselves."

and then in the table below:

"Criterion disc is recolored based on input from the director."

and that director is..... Terrence Malick!! Oh no, he di'nt!! doesn't he/she know that Malick is Cinema Jesus?!
