Can anyone comment on "Things to Come" for a classic sci-fi fan? I collect sci-fi movies (in addition to some other stuff) but usually I only collect from the 60's up, since I dislike the 50's monster movie style. Would love a couple opinions from other sci-fi fans. I don't want to own it because it's important, I want to own it if it's a good movie.

I also didn't care for Things to Come and it should have been up my alley. After watching the supplements, I concluded that it was Wells' influence and control that didn't work. There are some redeeming factors such as the set designs and special effects, but it was ultimately disappointing.

The article I read said that Melanie Griffith quit the production midway through because she didn't want to come out of it with "half a face", only to rejoin the production and get mauled.

Yes, indeed, it's a phenomenal piece of work. Olivier's contribution to its success cannot be overstated; several times I've noticed that his inflections and ability to emphasize a word here or a phrase there, have given brilliant shading to the narration.

This is a truly fantastic release, guys. The Rose has been fully restored in 4K and looks stunning on Blu-ray.

More importantly, however, there is a great new conversation with director of photography Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter, Heaven's Gate) in which he discusses a wide range of topics, from lighting and "flashing"/grain in films to the changes the industry has seen and how with the switch to digital films are losing their... organic filmic qualities (and everything else that was so important to cinematographers from his generation). A must-see piece for anyone interested in film

Not as far as I know but it has the criterion overlooked great film not given a decent home viewing release criteria.

Of that list, I'd say the later Floating Weeds, which could be the next Ozu anyway. It might be a bit because he just got a BD and Eclipse release.
