Things to Come seems like something right up my alley though, and I have been reading reviews to see if I want it. Some reviews make me want it, some make it sound super talky and not very cinematic.

Would love a couple opinions from other sci-fi fans. I don't want to own it because it's important, I want to own it if it's a good movie.
I also didn't care for Things to Come and it should have been up my alley. After watching the supplements, I concluded that it was Wells' influence and control that didn't work. There are some redeeming factors such as the set designs and special effects, but it was ultimately disappointing.

I'm 10 episodes into it, and it's phenomenal, both in terms of content and quality.
I made it a month-long marathon a couple years ago. It's 40 years old, and still the most comprehensive WWII documentary I've ever seen. Plus, it has Laurence Olivier.

Definitely worth a one time watch with a crowd.
I saw a segment on CBS News about this film and that most of the stars ended up being seriously mauled by the lions.

The article I read said that Melanie Griffith quit the production midway through because she didn't want to come out of it with "half a face", only to rejoin the production and get mauled.

Has Little Children been hinted at? I emailed them years ago suggesting that it would be a great Criterion title.

Yes, indeed, it's a phenomenal piece of work. Olivier's contribution to its success cannot be overstated; several times I've noticed that his inflections and ability to emphasize a word here or a phrase there, have given brilliant shading to the narration.

The Rose Blu-ray REVIEW

This is a truly fantastic release, guys. The Rose has been fully restored in 4K and looks stunning on Blu-ray.

More importantly, however, there is a great new conversation with director of photography Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter, Heaven's Gate) in which he discusses a wide range of topics, from lighting and "flashing"/grain in films to the changes the industry has seen and how with the switch to digital films are losing their... organic filmic qualities (and everything else that was so important to cinematographers from his generation). A must-see piece for anyone interested in film

What is everyone most wanted non out of print upgrades? marked the ones with current HD releases, but it doesn't mean they were done with a new master.

Testament of Dr. Mabuse (MoC)
Viridiana
Ikiru
The Passion of Joan of Arc (MoC)
A Story of Floating Weeds double feature (MoC color one)
Early Summer (BFI)

I wouldn't care if they don't release any new spine if they did all those the same month

There are tons of others i haven't seen yet, need to catch up with hulu, the problem is deciding what to watch first, so always end up not watching any

Of that list, I'd say the later Floating Weeds, which could be the next Ozu anyway. It might be a bit because he just got a BD and Eclipse release.

Thank you again and again.

The Rose is a gem and I hope more people discover it now that Criterion is releasing it.

I'm also very excited for any extras that Criterion releases that discuss cinematography. The majority of them are some of the more interesting extras on their discs. The Howe extra on Sweet Smell of Success is another one.

I cannot wait to experience this title using my home theater.

Speaking of Mad Max, I wonder if and when Criterion will release Peter Weir's Gallipoli.

I used to see Gallipoli on HBO during childhood, and, although 30 years have passed since my last viewing, I'd love to see it in the Collection.

I haven't seen it and I wonder if I should blind buy it.
The review makes me tempted to buy it.

For what it's worth, it was a lot better than I expected.
