There's no pattern. The only thing the clue tells us is that Criterion plans a release for the title in question.

We will know the release date when Criterion announces it, and not before, unless the information gets leaked from another party.

So would I. In fact, the gawdawful packaging is one of the reasons I have never purchased several of the Criterion sets I would normally snap up in a heartbeat, such as the BBS Story and the David Lean Directs Noel Coward compilations. Every time I see one in a B&N store, it's smashed to pieces, and I end up spending my money on something else.

At the very least, I wish Criterion would offer replacement Scanovo cases and inserts for those of us who would be willing to pay for them.

Well that's the way it is, has been and will be.

From my point of view, whether multiple films per case or however it would be done it makes for a more durable product. I don't know about you but I practically devour these big box sets several times over - they get handled a lot. I'm usually very careful with them but even so time takes it's toll.

My BBS set looks like it was dragged behind a motorcycle for a few miles.

kuro_sawa: I agree...the BBS box set is as fragile as it gets. It's also my #1 favorite Criterion box set. I handle this with care.

That's one reason I left the shrinkwrap on it and the Tati set and only cut out the wrap on the side that the discs are accessible. I know it looks weird on the shelf like that but it helps with the wear and tear on the more delicate boxsets or digipaks.

That sounds like what vinylphiles/audiophiles would do with their precious vinyl records. They cut a slit on one side to remove the record and leave the rest of the artwork/sleeve sealed. I suppose it keeps the sleeve preserved when the plastic is still covering it, but if I ever buy that kind of vinyl (and I'm buying a lot of it lately - got a newfound obsession going on here), I like to take that old plastic off and just put the whole thing in an outer plastic sleeve. Anyway, I've gotten off topic here. I wonder how many Criterion collectors are into vinyl records though? Hmmmmm.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one to have adopted this strategy.

I know that I've done it with all my Criterion Blu-ray boxes and digipaks and even back to the bigger DVD packaging like Vampyr. The only downside, other than appearance, is having to be careful sliding the cases back onto the shelf so the remaining shrinkwrap doesn't snag on it's neighbors and tear. Just leaving a little extra room between cases takes care of that. Not too obsessive, am I?

Lol I would hate that, more because of people complaining about shelf space :P

The Fisher King Blu-ray REVIEW

There is plenty of excellent new material with Jeff Bridges on this upcoming release. Fans of the film will be delighted.

I prefer a booklet to these fold-outs Criterion is doing more of. Still, looks like a nice set. Thanks for the review.

Watched Blow Out tonight and freaking LOVED it. Can't wait for Dressed to Kill now, and thinking of importing Obsession.

Obsessive? Absolutely not! Since I do the exact same thing, I should think we could describe your behavior as "practical" and even "brilliant".

To whom it may concern,

The semi-annual Criterion Collection 50% off sale at Barnes and Noble (Stores and Online) is scheduled for July. Exact dates not yet known.

All the best,

Junior

Thanks!
I'm eyeing 4 (although I have 13 in my wishlist):
Five Easy Pieces
Watership Down

Paris Texas (although I'm really concerned in case I get a bad disc)
The Man Who Knew too much (haven't seen this) OR The Lady Vanishes OR The 39 Steps

Also, I wonder if Arrow could release Paris Texas.
They have better compression/encoding most times.

There is an existing UK release for Paris Texas from Axiom and it has high scores for A/V, good extras and a booklet too. Unlikely that Arrow will be eager to put this out considering it has strong releases in both territories, and is probably still under license.
