Will the Eclipse label be released on BD in the near future?

Also, are the films in the Kurosawa and Fassbinder sets any good?

A past Wexner chat revealed it's something Criterion has discussed. There don't seem to be any plans to switch.

Honestly, I just want them out. I don't care if they're on Blu or DVD, I just want them out.

If I remember correctly, what they talked about is upgrading specific titles, not switching the entire line to blu-ray.

Thanks. I've been looking at some of the sets I might pick up during the B&N sale and didn't want to buy them only to find out later that they had announced plans to release them on BD.

I think Daisies might have been one of the titles discussed.

I watched Time Bandits for the first time last night and now it is my favorite Gilliam film along with Twelve Monkeys. I need to give Fear and Loathing and maybe Brazil a second chance probably.

As I watched Time Bandits I began to wonder who has given the best child performance in the collection? Craig Warnock wasn't asked to do too much in Time Bandits, but I enjoyed his performance. Right now my favorite is Kelly Reno in The Black Stallion. Kelly seemed very natural in his role.

I think that all of the "kids" in Wes Anderson films should be in their own special category. I'm not sure what to think about the kids in Rushmore, Moonrise Kingdom, etc. Also, I may need to watch The Innocents again to know how I really feel about Martin Stephens as Miles. Martin was given a very difficult acting assignment and I don't think he was quite able to pull it off. An A for effort though.

I do look forward to watching Patricia Gozzi in Sundays and Cybele or Rapture soon. Apparently, she is one of the great child actors.

I seem to remember Les Miserables and Wooden Crosses - which would make sense given their 4K restorations (and UK and French Blu-Ray releases)

Maybe so, and I guess I can understand that. But there are already bootlegs out there, so it isn't like the movie is exactly hidden. Maybe it's only the bigger Beatle fans who have seen it already, and who are aware of what you're talking about. I've seen it numerous times and I don't see anything so terrible in it (against Paul). Also, the way the Beatles came to an end is well documented anyway. I don't see it as a big deal ... but then again I'm just a fan (as in the movie doesn't affect me personally).

In my opinion, Enzo Staiola who plays Bruno in Bicycle Thieves gives the best child performance in the collection hands down!

Bobby Henrey's performance in The Fallen Idol is very impressive. One of my favourite Criterion titles, and fully deserving of an upgrade.

Aside from providing a solid social commentary on class and prejudice, I found My Beautiful Laundrette to be a terrible movie.

Patricia Gozzi in Sundays and Cybele
Jean-Pierre Léaud in The 400 Blows
Gaspard Manesse in Au Revoir Les Enfants
Brigitte Fossey and Georges Poujouly in Forbidden Games (I really want this on Blu-ray.)
Billy Chapin in The Night of the Hunter

This line of discussion reminds me that I still have not watched my Blu-ray of Kes.

I would certainly not recommend blind buying it.

If you're that intrigued, I'd suggest renting it on Amazon Instant Video.

So uh, who are those people? Are we supposed to know? Reverse image search suggests some people in The Wolfpack?

Yep. Assumed most would have known, seeing how the film and those people have gotten a good deal of press.

Probably the greediest (or smartest?) people to enter that room.

I (and I'm sure several other people in this thread) would be in heaven if those sets ever came to fruition.
Since Maltese Falcon is already out, I'd rather just have a complete Thin Man set instead of just the first one in a different box set.

I am a huge, huge fan of Patricia Gozzi. Just an incredible young actress who is in two films that are (or were) in the Collection:

Sundays and Cybele
Leon Morin, Priest (now OOP to Studio Canal)

However, it was her performance in Rapture that sealed the deal.

A child actress I would like to see enter the collection is another French lass, Victoire Thivisol, who at the age of four gave a staggering and totally amazing performance as a child trying to come to terms with the loss of her mother in the wonderful Ponette (1996). Thivisol was the youngest actress ever to win the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival. If her name doesn't ring any bells, she is probably better known for her later role as Juliette Binoche's young daughter in Chocolat (2000).
