Did you purposely order two copies of A Hard Days Night?

If you look at a photo of the house from Moonrise Kingdom, it turns out to be pretty exact.

Any thoughts from people who blind bought Valerie and Her Week of Wonders? Thinking about picking it up on my final trip this sale.

I blind bought and watched it last weekend. It's quite mesmerizing with fantastic, dreamy visuals and a great soundtrack. The young lead actress' performance is very impressive.

I may get crucified for writing this but I'd call it the movie that Jean Rollin would have made if he had had a budget, a plan, and something to say.

Highly recommended.

I do exactly the same for my non-criterion blu rays, with my special packaging/digipacks/boxsets taking precedence at the top of my shelf

Criterions however, I'd order numerically (I only have 5 right now, early days), the spine numbers are just too obvious to avoid.

I also hope that Night and the City figures into the equation. (or While the City Sleeps)

I saw La Vie En Rose at the theater, and it's a bummer of a movie, but it's also quite brilliant.
It's fun to go back to the New Year's Day posts and see who guessed what ...

Bought my first five Criterions!

M
Brazil
Charade
Sweet Smell of Success
The Earrings of Madame de...
(the only blind buy)

The first of many, but my wallet needs some breathing space. Can anyone share their thoughts on Madame de...??

Next up, I'll be looking to get The Essential Jacques Demy, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, The Last Days of Disco & The Game. (Though I'm sure some of the end-of-year releases will sneak their way in, the expected titles are great - Before Trilogy! After Hours!)

I watched it on a Hulu free trial. It was very well done, well acted, and dealing with themes that usually draw me in and it bored me to death...I liked it, just more of an acquired taste I think...and I'm Czech...

Is the America Lost and Found worth getting? I've never seen the movies and I have $42 in gift cards to supplement the cost.

The Merchant of Four Seasons
Moonrise Kingdom
A Room with A view

And here's what's speculated to be left:

Jellyfish Eyes
Inside Llewyn Davis
Lady Snowblood
The New World
The Big Clock
After Hours
Speedy / Harry Lloyd set

Possibly missing one or two. I'm always amazed at how many clues Criterion can get into these drawings.
I'm still thinking the couple in the car is Two for the Road.

For Easy Rider and The Last Picture Show, yes. I'm still waiting for standalone releases for those.

Well, it'll be 32$ out of pocket for me. Even with those 2 in the individual packages and a BN 50% discount, it wouldn't be that affordable. I'm getting it.

I went ahead and ordered a copy this past week after several forum members recently speculated that Criterion may have lost the rights to one of the films (Head, 1968) and that the whole set might eventually go out-of-print. I haven't seen all the films included in the set, but I have a genuine fondness for The Last Picture Show, having visited Larry McMurtry's massive used book complex in Archer City, Texas, many times, and an interest in revisiting Five Easy Pieces and The King of Marvin Gardens, neither of which I've seen in the past ten years or more.

So, given that, I would suggest:

Frances Ha (Definitely an acquired taste, I get that, but so good)

Breaking the Waves (Again, not everyone's taste, but an incredible film)

You guys actually made my decision a lot easier with all of the Malick suggestions. Before I decided on The Bridge the other day, I also had Badlands in my hand, so I decided to go with more Malick this time. I can't go wrong there. Thanks for the suggestions!

For Bergman, The Magician, The Seventh Seal, Persona, or Smiles of a Summer Night. Bergman is trickier for recommending films because they became so radically differrent as his career progressed.

Also, it seems like you have a lot of war and western movies. Check out Red River, The Shooting/Ride the Whirlwind, My Darling Clemintine, and Stagecoach.

Also, +1 to The Thin Red Line recommendation for a great war film.
As far as Kurosawa goes, I would like to own Kagemusha and The Hidden Fortress, and upgrade my DVD of Rashomon.

With Bergman, I still need Autumn Sonata, Fanny and Alexander, and Cries and Whispers, and I'd like to upgrade my DVD of The Seventh Seal.

I was looking at Red River, but I'm not a huge John Wayne fan. I'm sure I'll end up buying it eventually, though, because I am a Howard Hawks fan. I'll probably also upgrade my Clementine DVD at some point.

Another one that's caught my attention is Jubal. I've been watching quite a few Shakespeare adaptations lately, and I love westerns, so I figured this one would be a decent blind buy. Has anyone seen it?

Glad to help!

And as a huge Malick fan, I have to agree that you can't really go wrong. The Thin Red Line is such an experience. It's otherworldly. And the Criterion release is just majestic. It's easily one of my favorite Criterions.

I agree. The Thin Red Line will come to my collection eventually, it's just a matter of expendable income, and how much of it I have

I would add Days of Heaven, as well. It has some of the best cinematography I have ever seen.
