Like it, don't like it. Whatever. But there is no way in hell that it's sappy.
I said that I can understand where the sentiment comes from, not that I agree. Prior to Birdman, I've liked everything he's done to varying degrees. Ebert thought so highly of Babel that he had already included it in his Great Movies column. I think Amores Perros is his best, though. Highly recommend it!

I adore Bable, but i am more drawn to Chieko's story. I think that story makes Babel great and would love to see a full length version of her story.

Naomi Watts is devastating in 21 Grams, she shows our emotion and I felt she was perfect, like usual :P (Just realised MHdr is her first feature in collection woohoo!) Seriously love her performance, Sean Penn was a tad annoying but Watts made up for that :P

Be sure you also separate out the delicates. They need to be dried at a lower temperature.

That Fassbinder man...master with the camera.

Interesting movie that was WAY ahead of its time.
It's source novel, Daniel Galouye's Simulacron-3, from 1964 (also the source for the 1999 film The Thirteenth Floor) was one of the earliest uses of the concept of virtual reality.

The Merchant of Four Seasons
Moonrise Kingdom
A Room with A view
The Rose
Two Days, One Night

And here's what's speculated to be left:

Jellyfish Eyes
Inside Llewyn Davis
Lady Snowblood
The New World
The Big Clock
After Hours
Speedy / Harry Lloyd set

Possibly missing one or two. I'm always amazed at how many clues Criterion can get into these drawings.
You forgot the River and also Silent Ozu: Three Crime Dramas (guys with x's for mouths)

I never thought of organizing the collection this way.

What if someone is colorblind though? You're out of luck then. (I guess, with the exception of cats/kittens, your pet dog (or bull) won't be seeing red).

If I had one critique of the movie, it would be the fact that Fassbinder didn't really do anything to distinguish the different worlds. Could've been a budget issue, as I assume the budget was relatively low.

Didn't spend very much time in the Simulacron world...would've liked to see more of that.

I upgraded my DVD of The Bridge the other day, which brought my Criterion blu-ray collection to a total of 49. I was thinking about upgrading A Hard Day's Night, but I've seen that film so many times that I'd like to try something new. Also, my collection is heavy on classics and lacking in the contemporary area. Then again, there's a few Kurosawa and Bergman films I really need. So many films, so little time.

Anybody want to make my indecisiveness worse and suggest some contemporary films (anything after... we'll say 1970) for my 50th purchase?

I wasn't sure whether to include The River there as it seems more like a stream lol. I had attributed the clue with the covered mouths and knives to The Killers, but the Silent Ozu set also makes sense. I thought these clues were only for BD's, so I hadnt even considered them including eclipse sets in them.

The Thin Red Line or Badlands.

Jeez. Almost exactly what I was going to suggest. I got ninja'd!

So, given that, I would suggest:

Frances Ha (Definitely an acquired taste, I get that, but so good)

Breaking the Waves (Again, not everyone's taste, but an incredible film)

Well, what Kurosawa and Bergman films do you really need? Either of those directors' films would make a great 50th film in your collection. Fo r Kurosawa, The Hidden Fortress. For Bergman, The Magician, The Seventh Seal, Persona, or Smiles of a Summer Night. Bergman is trickier for recommending films because they became so radically differrent as his career progressed.

Also, it seems like you have a lot of war and western movies. Check out Red River, The Shooting/Ride the Whirlwind, My Darling Clemintine, and Stagecoach.

Also, +1 to The Thin Red Line recommendation for a great war film.

One more vote for The Thin Red Line.

Also Double life of Veronique, if you like Kieslowski.

I've been a good boy and haven't splurged in a long time so I decided to be naughty this time around. This email confirmation is the stuff of nightmares, but it was worth it!

I wasn't sure about Night and the City myself, but it was one of the guesses a couple of other people made at the beginning of the year which has come to pass. Personally, I didn't quite see a Moonrise Kingdom, either, but we're getting that one, too. Have to admit it's turned out to be quite a clever drawing[/B].
