Being that Janus Films owns the rights to all of them and they are currently showing them in a theatrical run, I would say that it is safe to assume that they will be released.

I didn't even know that Janus had the rights to those Wim Wender films until now. I really hope we get a release of Until the End of the World soon.

Birthday presents from my wife. She picked them out herself... I think she did a pretty good job!

Nice! By the way, we gave you another shout out for the Janus list. That was great stuff!

I'd say this means that all of them will come out eventually, but they will probably spread them out.

Tales of Hoffmann in 4K is gorgeous. It was my first viewing of the film but the fact it's an opera doesn't make it inaccessible by any means. My favorite part of the film was the second tale with Moira Shearer. It's a lot of fun to watch her move with such grace and elegance. You don't need to be a ballet buff to understand you're watching something special.

It's no wonder Gene Kelly screened The Red Shoes 15 times for his Singin' in the Rain crew.

I've just finished watching Ang Lee's Ride With the Devil. It's difficult for me to objectively evaluate this spectacularly photographed film, because I can't separate my feelings about the movie from my love of the locations on which it was shot. I know these hills and plains, the forests and waterways so intimately; they are, to a certain degree, a part of my soul. Suffice it to say that I greatly admired the performances, particularly the work of Jeffrey Wright, and I was amazed at how many outstanding character actors had significant parts to play, among them Tom Wilkinson, Celia Weston, and Margo Martindale. And the cinematography by Frederick Elmes, which I alluded to earlier, was often breathtaking, not only in its beauty, but also in its evocation of a time and a culture that still haunt the present day some 160 years after the story took place.

I'm so glad Criterion brought this neglected film to light. Although there is admittedly an unfortunate paucity of supplemental materials on the disc, this is one of those movies that I might not ever have experienced had Criterion not chosen to issue it. For that, I am grateful.

Non-Criterion related, but Wes Craven died today at the age of 76.

He was a huge contributor to the horror genre, making one of my favorite horror films, A Nightmare on Elm Street.

How cool would it be if Criterion was somehow able to get the rights to release the original Nightmare as a Criterion?

...as a tribute to Wes.

...and a great gift to me.

I think Last House on the Left would be a cooler release. Especially if it was released at the same time as The Virgin Spring.

Wes Craven Last House on the Left? I had the misfortune of watching it, I guess it could be considered by some as one of those so bad its good type of films?

Well as long as they release The Virgin Spring

Soon after I heard the extremely sad news, one of the first thoughts I had -- after the shock began to wear off -- was how cool it would be if Criterion was able to release Scream. It's not like I ever expect it to happen, mind you. But it would be a wonderful tribute. It's a verified classic. And I could really see a Criterion release being spectacular.

Such sad news. He was an impressive man and an impressive filmmaker who contributed so much to the genre of horror, and left so many of us with such wonderful memories. He was a class act through and through.

What the hell is a "so bad it's good" type film? I hate that phrase and it never made any sense to me. A movie's either good or bad.

The Last House in the Left is a genuinely good film. If you don't like it then that's just a matter of taste. And you can't deny the talent it took to make it.

Never seen it.

But heard about the horrific rape scene.

...it's not for me.

His best film, by far. Not a "good" film but one that evokes an almost palpable queasiness, in part because of its ineptness.

Yeah that has never made sense to me too, I usually don't find any redeeming qualities in movies that usually get that kind of praise.

Agree that it is a matter of taste like everything but one of the reasons i didn't like it is that I really can't see the talent it took, not just because of the shocking scenes, seems to me like poor student film.
