I watched Carrie and 28 Days Later last night.

...I think they would both make fantastic Criterion releases.

Well, the original was directed by Robert Wise in 1963, and is terrific. There was a remake by Jan de Bont in 1999, which was...well...not so much.

There's, of course, all sorts of similarly-themed movies. One worth checking out is The Legend of Hell House (1973).

I just saw this on Criterion Instagram page:

It's probably wishful thinking since it doesn't mention anything about restoration, just anniversary but I think it's time for another Fellini in the collection, next February will be 1 year since the release of Satyricon

I was looking over the special features for the upcoming Ikiru release.

While they look very good, one thing I wish Criterion would do more often with foreign films is include interviews with American directors/actors about the influence that classic films like Ikiru had on their careers.

They did it with The Battle of Algiers and a few others.

I don't mind reading subtitles for the films themselves, but it does get a little frustrating having to do it with the special features.

Plus it's just interesting to get a Western perspective on non-Western films.

Apparently theres some rights issues that are keeping it from being released on blu ray.

I'm assuming that you watched the 1976 Brian De Palma version of Carrie. I would not be surprised to see that one enter the Collection at some point.

I'd love to see a Criterion edition with an extensive Stephen King interview or even a Stephen King commentary track.

I've never even seen the remake.

The 2002 remake of Carrie and the 2013 remake of Carrie are actually both pretty decent, although neither of them are as good as the original film adaptation.

The 2002 television movie remake is more faithful to the novel. The 2013 remake introduces relevant present-day issues, like cyber-bullying, to the table.

In all honesty, the 2013 version probably would have been my favorite had it not wussed out with the ending.

I'm with you. I don't really care what the director or the people that worked on the film think about it, I want to know what Americans think about it.

I like the editing, and the creative ambition Godard has while making it. It's impossible to watch.

Would love to see Hour of The Wolf & The Hourglass Sanatorium get a Criterion release. Lot of Jean Rollin films there.

Trick or treat? A treat for sure—a classic horror movie, made during the last 40 years, that we have never screened at the Cinematheque and which will be shown in a rare 35mm archive print. We can’t divulge the title, but there’s now a good reason (aside from Halloween) to present this film, which was popular enough in its day to be followed by a sequel and later remade.

No one under 18 admitted! Approx. 90 min.
You are probably right about Halloween (91mins). Other movies from roughly the late 70's with remakes and sequels. Carrie (98mins), I Spit on your Grave ( Doubt that's it), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (83mins), The Amityville Horror (117min), The Omen (111min). Can't think of any more films from that era that had a sequel and a remake and only Halloween would be considered approx 90mins.

Of course this is assuming its in the longer timeframe of 'The Last 40 years' thinking if it was made say 25 years ago they would have said last 30 years. Could be Evil Dead at 85mins.

The 10 minutes I watched of Goodbye to Language scared me away from anything from Godard past Weekend. Showing obscure political figures on cell phones to each other or whatever it is they’re doing in the beginning of the film is not interesting cinema.

Wolf was MGM so Criterion may have acquired all their Bergman films when they got Persona (Wolf, Shame, Passion of Anna, Serpent's Egg).

I'm relatively happy with the new blu of Hourglass Sanatorium.
