That probably means that The Before Trilogy will be released in Q4; hopefully not in '17.
Criterion always releases a boxset in November, if they announce Boyhood tomorrow this will probably be the case.

I'm right there with you. I found it to be long, boring, and unable to live up to the heaps of praise it was given. I guess I'm just not a Linklater fan (I didn't particularly enjoy Dazed and Confused, either).

I am a Linklater fan, and still was disappointed , but still it is good Criterion is going to release it, to get that out of the way and let them focus on the good stuff (Before Trilogy)

I agree, though I do have to add that "overrated" really isn't the movie's fault. That's other people's fault (be they friends, critics or advertising people) and partially the viewer's fault (believing the hype). The movie itself has precious little to do with being "overrated".

The Before trilogy is brilliant imo.

...laughable that Boyhood is getting the Criterion treatment first.

Lionsgate managed to mess up a number of their releases. The most egregious example is probably their DVD release of John Huston's The Dead that left out a reel in the middle and therefore was about 20 minutes too short.

Their wounds are entirely self-inflicted.

Huh, Boyhood?. I wouldn't be rushing out to get it, personally. It's one of those films that got so much hype and oscar buzz thrown at it that I more or less tuned it out.

The fact that it's Fincher (and Sorkin on the script) is a plus, but with hundreds of films to watch that I'm actually interested in (there are over 300 just in my Netflix queue), I just don't feel inclined to spend the time watching something I'm not interested in.

same with Steve Jobs, although I haven't seen that yet, it's Danny Boyle
For me, Boyle is hit and miss. I liked Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire, was ambivalent about 28 Days Later and Sunshine, and disliked A Life Less Ordinary.

Not necessarily. It could just as likely be a summer release.

Of course, and I hope so, it's just that the odds are lower, according to my research Criterion has released a proper boxset (not including regular case with more than one film or reissues) these times per month out of their 7 years of releases:

Jan---0/7
Feb---0/7
Mar---1/7
Apr---1/7
May--1/7
Jun---1/7
Jul----1/7
Aug---0/7
Sep---1/7
Oct----2/7
Nov---6/7
Dec---2/7

The only miss in November is from their first year of releasing blus.

I get this, my list on Netflix is so big, but lately I decided to just wait until something is about to expire to force me watch it, because just deciding on that huge list never works, I end up not seeing anything.

And if I just watch whatever first comes to mind then suddenly tons of other films on my list are expiring and I have no time to watch all, since I also try to watch everything in the collection and keep up with my unwatched blus.

Ooh I'm excited to not have to wait much longer for their release of Boyhood. Now if they would only get to that special edition of Blue is the Warmest Color...

I can't wait for their Boyhood release. I held off on buying the Blu-Ray for this (though I do have a digital copy).

You and I have similar taste indeed.

Now that I won't be surprised for today's announcements because of the leaked phantom pages, I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of Boyhood, but I'm willing to watch this again... I felt it was more of an experiment with a very ordinary story of an American family over a period of 12 years, rather than a metaphysical, poignant, original film.

Now that we've found the phantom pages, how funny would it be if they delayed the announcment? ;P

It's punishment for the Criterion Collection Discussion thread on Blu-ray.com.

Incredible if Criterion go ahead and announce A Brighter Summer Day tomorrow. I've only seen The Terrorizers and Yi Yi from Yang, yet those are masterpieces in every sense of the word. His direction is so gorgeous, especially how he films the cities he shoots in, and the humanism and simplicity of his films is so beautiful.

I can complain about certain films they choose to release and not realease, but when it's all said and done they truly are the best movie distributor out there.

I don't have any experience with Yang, but A Bright Summer Day may be interesting for me.
