True. It's not Top Gun.

But it's still Vertigo. And there has never been another film made like it.

Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman Blu-ray is my favorite Criterion next to On The Waterfront. I have watched four movies, and I love them all. I had to Google Zatoichi to find out more. I didn't know there is a television series. Would Criterion ever release the TV series? I am dreading the day I'll finish the set and have no more Zatoichi.

Actually, why isn't Vertigo in the CC?

Am I missing something?

Rights issue, I guess...CC did not get Hitchcock's best movies...yet...only the 39 steps can be counted as one of his better movies...

Thank you. I didn't know. That's depressing, though.

Yes, but there's not as much action or plot as The Third Man. The plot is actually rather simple in Odd Man Out. It is deeper in more of an introspective character level.

You'd have an easier time trying to explain the Big Bang Theory.

That's it! I'm done! No more blu-rays until next year! Barnes and Noble sent out another 30% off coupon via email, and since I was headed to Arkansas anyway, I printed it out and took it with me, just for grins. Then when I got to the store, they told me I could use it on six items if I wanted to. Showing uncommon restraint and self-discipline, I used it on just five items and picked up:

Les Blank: Always for Pleasure @ 47.24
L'avventura @ 15.11
Gates of Heaven / Vernon, Florida @ 15.11
Marathon Man (not Criterion) @ 7.55
The Name of the Rose (not Criterion) @ 5.66

Gotta love my local store. I wouldn't mind being snowed in for a week or so ... I've got plenty of movies to catch up on!

Not only you used it for only 5 items, you also managed to buy 2 non-criterions out of those 5. That's something...

Oh...I did not say it in this thread...that I picked up my 100th criterion today...It was M

Universal's rights on its Hitchcock films last another 50+ years. I recall reading the rights are good to about 2066 and 2067 on most all of the films.

Congratulations on your 100th Criterion! And kudos for your good taste in choosing M for that honor ... excellent film!

I watched my copy of Zazie dans le métro tonight. What a wacky, but thoroughly entertaining film. I'm not sure if anyone has classified it as a live action cartoon, but that is pretty much what it felt like to me for a lot of the movie. It's maybe a tad too crazy at the very end, but I still found it to be hilarious.

I realize that several of Malle's films weren't comedies, but after watching this, I plan on checking out the rest of his films in the Criterion Collection during the next sale in July and probably pick up Viva Maria! from Kino at some point.
