Placed order: Friday, July 16, 2010.
Sent e-mail to 'mulvaney@criterion.com': Sunday, July 25, 2010.
Received reply to e-mail with shipping confirmation: Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
Received replacement cases: Thursday, July 29, 2010.
I was on the phone with Karen M. from Criterion on Tuesday and she said they were swamped with orders right now. Guess a lot of people are buying the older blu-rays with the B&N sale I placed my order Sunday and still haven't gotten a shipping confirmation, but she said she saw my record of payment in the database. Taking too long

OCD alert!

Not to worry, I'm similarly OCD about my blu-ray library.

I bought my first few Criterion Blu-rays a few months ago, including "8 1/2" and "The Man Who Fell to Earth".

For some reason, "8 1/2" came in a plastic case, while the "The Man Who Fell to Earth" had an all-cardboard case, as shown below. I prefer the plastic case since it looks better on my shelf. Is this difference in cases normal, or is Criterion phasing out one for the other? In the latter situation, can I trade in one case for the other?

Remember its how you see it. You dont need to agree that any movie is a masterpiece nor classic, nor favorite. You are the buyer and it just has to please you.
I have also felt that second and third viewings of a film can sometimes turn one's head.

I wasn't as "pleased" with my first viewing of "The Red Shoes" and wouldn't have considered purchasing it. Since I streamed it on NetFlix, I decided to give it a second chance. I "really" watched it and enjoyed it. I wound up buying it.

The same with "Days of Heaven". It was visually a stunning film, but it felt like a "70s movie" because of Brooke Adams and Richard Gere. I then purchased Murnau's "City Girl" and was able to see where Malick had gotten his influence for Days of Heaven from. I bought that as well.

I thank all those on this forum for their opinions and feedback. It's always a personal thing, but a number of different opinions can be and is a big help in discovering new films to love.

Even Godard...

Awesome. Great info on the imports, thanks for the help guys

Arakdin, that Japanese Eternal Sunshine cover is fantastic. The seller that this site linked me to has it for $54.99, which, is indeed pricey. Might have to just bite the bullet on that though. I've been waiting too long for a release.

A Prophet
The White Ribbon
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Moon
Waltz with Bashir
An Education
The Last Station
Broken Embraces

Sounds small, but Sony also came to the rescue of a number of Weinstein titles I loved

The Road
A Single Man
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Clearly, a quality Home Video distributor to say the least.

I've been saying this for a while. Sony's dedication to releasing these titles has been great. I'm sure most of these do not turn over a big profit but I am glad they are releasing them.

Conversely, Home Video is where they find their profit I think. A lot of these titles sell out at retail stores in Austin TX, so someone must be buying them.

The White Ribbon was a GREAT surprise, that I found out about from this website. A superior transfer by Sony and some nice supplements.

Plus, Sony Pictures Classics is also releasing The Secret in their Eyes, another fantastic foreign film from last year, and the winner of the Best Foreign Language Film oscar. Although I think A Prophet should have won, any of those three would have been very worthy.

Pondering whether or not to buy em, but if the quality isn't good, I'm better off just sticking with my DVDs. Or if anyone has seen them and has an opinion, please let me know.
If you go to the top of the main page of this website in the right hand corner, where you see "Using my settings", you'll see national flag icons. Just find the one for the country that you're interested in and click on it. The reviews section will change to the BDs for that particular country.
