You should check out https://www.blu-ray.com/2-Friends/329906/ and An Angel At My Table for sure.

I'm also down for Brief Encounter too.

Oddly enough I never was big into Howard Hawkes, and I recently watched Phoenix and didn't feel it was a movie I could revisit more than once, so I'll be skipping those titles.

The Kennedy Films is a hard sell for me, so I doubt I even have remote interest in even watching those.

Overall, this month doesn't blow me away, but its still yet another good roundup of diverse movies from Criterion.
Primary (Part of the Kennedy set) is a wonderful documentary and a groundbreaking one. One of the great documentaries about presidential campaigns in my opinion.

I'm in for Hawks. I'm interested in the JFK films, too. The early 60s was a fascinating time in America. I like how Criterion is giving us the Manchurian Candidate in March and the Kennedy films in April. They need to follow through and give us Seven Days in May in May. That would be grand.

I know that Lone Wolf is expected from the cartoon, but has Hanzo been mentioned or is this just a hopeful wish on your part? That would be rad.

I know this is not Criterion related but had to do this, just watched Top Gun for the first time and wow .

Sorry Ray, but most people here were right, it's really bad, if you like aerial combat scenes go watch Wings(1927), the actors actually operated the cameras while flying for real on that one, beat that Top Gun

They've got a great filmography, hard for something to come out on top.

I loved Bowie in that film. And you're right, Peter Gabriel's music really added a unique feeling to that movie. It would have suffered had it been a traditional orchestral score. I loved the mix of modern synthesizers and ancient flutes/drums used in the music.

Fail Safe would be another title from that era I'd like to see show up.

You're half right. Most people here think Top Gun is pretty awesome.

This is what happens at nearly 4am with a few vodkas in the system. I don't read things correctly.

Can I suggest an alternative phraseology when expressing a desire for receiving this particular item?

Sounds positively priapic.

I love me some Top Gun. I saw that movie at the theater back in 1986 during the summer before my freshman year of high school, and I still revisit it often. Everything comes together in that film with the soundtrack and the visuals. Of course, it helps if you were a 1980s kid like me.

The Blue Max, which I own by way of the Twilight Time Blu-ray, has some truly stellar air combat sequences as well.

The summer of 1986 all the kids in my neighborhood wanted to be fighter pilots after that movie. Some even went out and bought the aviator sunglasses. It was that big of a movie that summer.

I'd love to see that one, too. I suspect it's one that Sony wants to keep for themselves, though, as I can't imagine that Twilight Time wouldn't have tried to license it long before now.

Then again, maybe it's a title that's in Grover Crisp's queue for restoration.

It's not just the visuals and the soundtrack. It's also the script and its endless over-the-top one-liners. A friend of mine once was a party where they played Top Gun as part of the entertainment. The hosts would then stop the movie at "random" places and people would then have to guess the next line. It turned out to be surprisingly easy once you got in the proper mindset.
