it doesn't seem like we are getting any new Koreeda on Blu-ray and that's really a shame. Maborosi and After Life are both included in the TSPDT top 2000 films list. neither is available on Blu-ray; their DVD releases are OOP and are fetching a premium price tag on eBay.

I had reservations about buying the UK releases of I Wish and Like Father, Like Son. some minor PQ issues, I guess...

anyway, I hadn't bought a new Blu-ray in about 6 weeks, so I treated myself today. also found a copy of Nobody Knows on DVD on eBay for $3.45 shipped. it is from eStocks, from whom I've never received a 'very good' disc that wasn't in 'like new' condition.

so all 3 for $28.07. happy.
It's a damn shame that Maborosi isn't available on Blu Ray. It's one of the most beautifully shot films ever made, and to not have it in HD is a crime. The company that is trying to put it out on BD in the US is having a lot of issues with the Japanese distributor/rights holder of it so it will likely be years before we get it

I was watching The Seventh Seal last night and that one's pretty darn good, though I don't know if it's the best.

...Harakiri is another great one.
Aside from the already mentioned Marketa Lazarova and The Innocents, Jules and Jim, Yojimbo, and The Hidden Fortress blow me away whenever I watch them.

Glad to meet another fan of Still Walking I've been pushing it as a recommendation for the past several years ever since I first watched it as a blind buy.

EDIT: In fact, I even pushed it on you! haha.....I feel like a proud papa right now.

The Sweet Smell of Success (Just might be the best black and white transfer in the collection. Jaw dropping good. Every frame looks like a large format camera image you would see in an art gallery. New York City at night in the 1950s never looked so alive in black and white as it does here.)

The Spy Who Came in From the Cold (Unbelievable clarity, stunning, gorgeous, creamy whites, inky blacks, all shades in between. It looks so real, like you could walk right into your screen and enter a black and white world of cold war Berlin.)

I seem to recall Wings of Desire looking pretty darn good too, but it has been awhile since I last saw that one.

Not Criterion, but Out of the Past and Touch of Evil are also unbelievably rich and vibrant in black and white, with incredible detail.

Kinda sorta Criterion related....I also love the look of the new 4K restoration of The Third Man from Studio Canal.
The Sweet Smell of Success is already on my list for the July Barnes and Noble sale.

I just love great black and white transfers.

...maybe even more than great color transfers.

Yes. I didn't check all of them, but the couple I saw, The Graduate and Lady Snowblood, are. It says until March 23rd. Do I have to wait that long?

Love Ozu, though my experience with his work, thus far, is quite limited. I'm on a feeding frenzy of new directors right now. I first saw Tokyo Story a little over a month ago, and got An Autumn Afternoon a few weeks ago. I'm going to be watching quite a few Criterion films this week.

Holy Criterion sale. Amazon just put a ton of Criterion films on sale for $21.99.

Oh, no. I just spent $300 on them; I didn't need to see that, lol.

What the hell. Might as well pick up a few more.

Looking at my emails from Criterion: My order was processed on the 23rd; shipped on the 25th, and arrived today, the 29th and I live far from the East Coast. (HI) I got Nashville and it came in one of those ghetto looking corrugated cardboard envelopes but amazingly the Digipak was in perfect shape. It's usually the plastic cases I have had bad luck with.

I bought 12 films from Criterion's flash sale, and two more from a member here.

I'd agree. Of the ones I've seen thus far, Persona is pretty spectacular.

The Innocents has stunning black and white cinematography - not sure of it was mentioned - the transfer is amazing too, so many details in the imagery.

If you are region free, Maborosi is in stock at AmazonJP and available throughYesAsia.

Artificial Eye has the rights to Our Little Sister in the UK so hopefully we'll see some sort of English friendly release from them. I saw it at TIFF last year and found it to be up to my lofty Koreeda expectations.

I picked up two films I've been intrigued by for some time, Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas, and John Cassavetes' Love Streams. These will serve as my first experiences with both directors, and Love Streams should tide me over until I pick up Cassavetes' Five Films when Barnes & Noble has their sale.

i loved this film and bought the Bluray (haven't watched the actual Bluray yet), but I think there's a new 4K restoration of it yet to be released.
Had I known beforehand maybe i would have waited.
I don't like buying and selling afterwards (many times it's difficult to sell)

I'm in the same boat as you with The Graduate, and I think that's pretty silly given the fact that they weren't on backorder when we placed the orders (since obviously you can't then). The one thing that is keeping me from being mad about it all is the fact that I don't really need them right now. I only placed the order to take a little load off of what will end up being a giant haul during the B&N sale in July.

To actually refer to your question, this is my first order with them, but I'd imagine so.
