I was not a fan of Damsels in Distress. My favorite Stillman film is Last Days of Disco. I did not realize Greta Gerwig has a writing credit for Frances Ha. I was actually surprised by how much I loved the character Frances. I think what I loved best about her was that she refused to settle for less than her dream...even if she made crazy decisions in the process (i.e., flying to France)

Somehow the editing style and the stories within seem at odds with each other and I just don't think it compares to the marvel that is In the Mood for Love (that's not a fair comparison, I know I should judge the movie on its own merits, but that's nevertheless how I feel about it).
I watched about half of Chungking Express and gave up on it. I just couldn't get into it for some reason. I'll definitely give it another shot, but I'm in no hurry to do so.

Hi,
Could someone tell me the benefits of owning a criterion blu ray over a standard release? I don't know much about them since I live in the UK and they don't make them here. I recently purchased a region-free blu ray player and I am thinking of getting The Fisher King - just trying to decide which version to get as criterion is double the price...

There should be English friendly Region A blu releases available in Korea and possibly Hong Kong if you want the film without the oop Criterion price.

Watching For All Mankind the other night I came to the conclusion that this may be the greatest space movie ever made...fiction or nonfiction.

It's so freaking good.

It's hypnotic.

And it's all freaking real.

It's amazing to me that more fictional films haven't been made about the real Nasa program. Nothing is more dramatic to me that space exploration.

...how has there not been a biopic about the Apollo 11 mission?

Edit...looks like Ryan Gosling may be playing Neil Armstrong.

The Criterion Collection usually produces releases with superior video/audio and bonus features when compared to releases from other companies.

And, you're somewhat in luck, as Criterion will be releasing 5 of their films in the UK in April.

Totally agree. Everyone who watches it is blown away and says generally the same thing. I watched it with my dad, and he said it was the best he had seen and had never seen some of the footage.

Would love to upgrade because I have the original release of the dvd.

The only criticism I've ever heard is from people who go into it expecting a more conventional documentary that provides a lot of information about the Apollo program.

...For All Mankind is kind of the opposite of that.

It's an interesting story from the Home Media Magazine in relating to The Criterion Collection as well as Sony, which was published yesterday on their website.

Sony Distributing 'The Criterion Collection' in the U.K. [March 7, 2016]
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/stu...ction-uk-37700

The excerpt:

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment March 7 announced it will for the first time distribute The Criterion Collection outside North America — beginning April 18 in the United Kingdom.

Initial releases include It Happened One Night, Grey Gardens, Macbeth (directed by Roman Polanski), Only Angels Have Wings, Speedy and Tootsie.

So you're not of the opinion that Kubrick deserved an Oscar for filming the "moon landing"?

Just received the Criterion "On The Waterfront" today. Looking forward to it! Interesting that it features different aspect ratios of the remaster on each disc. These guys do a first rate job.

5 more Criterion titles should arrive before the weekend. I know what I'll be watching

What? The second story is the best part of Chungking Express!

Personally, I like the movie simply because it's so unpretentiously tossed together. There's a fun and spontaneity to it that isn't always there in most Wong Kar Wai films, who can occasionally lurch into turgid mannered territory at times.

There's a documentary about the making of "Sweet Movie", similar to "Hearts of Darkness". Criterion should give it a release.

It's called "Poop Dreams".

Reading the wikipedia plot summary of Sweet Movie led me to the discovery of something referred to in the medical community as Penis captivus.

...I may never be the man I was before.

Great film and Criterion did an outstanding job with the release!
I'm a bit newer to Chaplin. I'm trying to branch out a little in the silent section. I thought that scene was a little sad too. I liked the idea of them breaking windows just to get paid for repairing them later.

It was a great movie!

This unpleasant turn in this thread reminds me that Pink Flamingos still needs a blu-ray release.

It's a Criterion worthy film, too, IMO. Plus didn't they release it on LD way back?
