I suspect if Criterion or any other boutique label were to release the film today they would add something by way of extras, a critic's commentary or video essay (Tony Rayns, I'm thinking)...or maybe even include the predecessor film I was born but... like the BFI did in their set. Not sure what else I want from AmzJP that'd make the shipping worthwhile.

Yeah, he could sent the $5 Paypal to store@criterion.com with the item he needed in the notes field. But, if he's never asked for replacement packaging before, he should send an e-mail to Jon Mulvaney instead (mulvaney@criterion.com) telling him he needs a replacement slip cover for Moonrise Kingdom, attaching the proof of purchase, and his address. I expect that, as it's the first time he's requested a replacement, Jon will send it to him for free.

I doubt anyone has said otherwise , did you liked Damsels in Distress? I think the humor was pretty weird even by Whit Stillman standards, I enjoyed it but nothing more, her character in particular is not very likable, not that that is a problem, but in Franches Ha she is certainly great, still need to catch Mistress America.

That's too funny, I watched The Kid last night for the first time as well. I have a few other Chaplin films, and love them all. have to admit though, The Kid is now a favorite. i teared up a little when
[Show spoiler]they came to take the kid away
.

Great film and Criterion did an outstanding job with the release!

I saw Good Morning for the first time last week and was surprised by how good it is. I thought that it was supposed to be a lightweight entry in the Ozu canon. Not so. The two boys were very cute and funny, but the film is hardly 'about' them and their longing for a TV set. I can even rationalize the farting as being an integral theme of the film. Do the Japanese have the saying "talking out of one's a##?" That's what the boys accuse the grown ups of doing and it is interesting how the neighborhood women are shown to partake in so much idle gossip.

The BFI Blu was just fine as far as I'm concerned. ..and it comes w/ the bonus Ozu silent film. Can't beat that package.

From what I have read, that bonus silent film I Was Born, But..., it is as highly regarded as his own remake, even if it got relegated to an eclipse set by Criterion, hopefully if they release Good Morning in the future they could add it as they did with their Story of Floating Weeds release.

BTW my most wanted Upgrades would be:

The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Viridiana
The Passion of Joan of Arc (even if I already have the MoC)
A Story of Floating Weeds/Floating Weeds
Early Summer
Juliet of the Spirits

Has anyone watched Chungking Express? It's pretty damn expensive but I've never been dissatisfied with a Wong Kar-wai film.

I do give you props for Birdman though. I just have the standard Blu/Digital edition, but it was definitely one of my favorite movies of last year. Went into it knowing what to expect and got more than I hoped for. Michael Keaton was perfect for that movie.
Thanks buddy agreed on Birdman such an amazing movie!

It's right below In the Mood for Love as my favorite WKW film.

I'd try to track down a copy. You won't be disappointed.

It's my favorite WKW film. Encompasses everything that is great about his movies. Infinitely re-watchable.

Chungking Express is an awesome little indie movie. It's a film that was designed for re-watchability. Right down to the vibrant menu featuring the music of the Cranberries, when you press "Play" on your remote, you'll be sucked into another universe for 2 hours. It's worth every penny.

I have Army of Shadows and Leon Morin... The only CC Blu that is OOP that I'd like to have is Chungking Express. Just a very entertaining movie.

It's one of my favorite films ever, one that continues to grow with each viewing and always puts me in the best mood. The Faye Wong apartment sequences are pure bliss.

Yep. Just the other day I was curious how much it was going for on eBay. As if it already wasn't one of my most prized blus.

I apologize to Jellyfish Eyes for assuming it was the worst movie in the collection. Sweet Movie just set a new standard with me. Wow...just...wow.

I love In the Mood for Love and I really liked 2046, but Chungking Express is kinda meh to me.

Somehow the editing style and the stories within seem at odds with each other and I just don't think it compares to the marvel that is In the Mood for Love (that's not a fair comparison, I know I should judge the movie on its own merits, but that's nevertheless how I feel about it).

I haven't seen Sweet Movie, but I've seen his W.R.: Mysteries of the Organism.
