He may just want a film-noir net yet released on home video to make its debut with Criterion.

I've kept thinking over the last few days about Hiroshima mon amour influencing Wim Wenders when he made Wings of Desire. The beginning of both movies are almost like mini tone poems in a way. Has anyone else thought of this parallel too?

There is a 4K restoration of Ugetsu at Cannes this year. There has to be an upgrade from Criterion coming this year. Maybe they've waited all this time to see if there was a better version than Eureka's from 2013.

Sorry to be mysterious, but yes, I have a specific noir title in mind, one that hasn't been released on US home video.

A third party has revealed the title to me as being a future Criterion release. I'm not specifying the title, knowing that Criterion prefers to reveal their titles when they're ready to do so.

I mean, you could have said the title (and we all would have suspected it a dark horse that you dreamed of), and we wouldn't have been the wiser to its being a future release. But that's just how my mind looks at things. I do understand and respect your secresy though.

Was it ever confirmed that Two For the Road was going to be joining the CC? I know there was debate over the cartoon hint from last year being for it or something else. Did that something else turn out to be Il Sorpasso?

Doesn't mean there will be an upgrade this year. There are 25-30 titles on blu in Europe, some with 4K remasters, that Criterion still hasn't upgraded from DVD.

I have not seen the film, however, two nights ago I watched my recently blind-bought purchase of Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill. For those who can appreciate exploitation mixed with gritty camp, you are in for a treat! The bare bones blu-ray disc is currently available on eBay for $29.99 + $3.99 shipping from a private vendor. I know that seems like a high price tag, but I found the product to be well worth it.
Oh crap I just ordered the UK import - that's usually a sign the US version is JUST announced

Just an FYI, as I have not seen it mentioned here: Twilight Time has a sale on their site (through April 22nd), selling many of their Blu-rays $10 off their normal price. I picked up A Man For All Seasons and Oliver! for $19.95 each.

Some other really good films available, including Inherit the Wind, The Birdman of Alcatraz, 1984, Remains of the Day, Guess Who's Coming to DInner, and Mississippi Burning.

I don't know why Warner won't give this film the treatment it deserves. Maybe its because of its religious themes, or maybe it's their policy on NC-17 rated films. Even though it hasn't been give this rating, it could get it if it goes through reclassification. Or maybe because Warner knows this film has a reputation, and they're going to keep it hostage to make us all beg for them to release it. If so, not cool.

They are afraid of a religious backlash, especially from Catholics and the southeast USA. Allegedly there is a note on the master that says "never to see the light of day" or something to that effect. They probably don't have to worry about that today (there are plenty worse films), but it's a mindset that came down from the older generation.

Hopefully one day they will come to their senses, but that day is probably a long ways from now.
