The only Criterion digipak I have that has been real beat up is the "Mr Arkadin" DVD digipak, which I've had for 8 years or so. It came in so-so shape and has just received a bunch of wear over the years for whatever reason. I've had the DVD digipaks for "Slacker" and "Videodrome" for 10 or 11 years and both are still in mint condition, although I've upgraded both to BD. I even had both digipaks in my college dorm room, where I was often either drunk or stoned, so I didn't really take care of my collection like I do now. I also had a bunch of drunken idiot buddies coming by to borrow movies. It's amazing those two digipaks survived in such mint condition when I think about it.

If a plastic case gets cracked or chipped, just replace the case.

Same with digibooks. Corners crushed, and the glue on the plastic case to the book itself has failed on several of my titles.

Kind of like a vintage Corvette. Looks pretty, but at the cost of fiberglass.

Why the hate for Digipacks? I absolutely love them! Compare the art and design on the case for a normal Criterion blu-ray case, and compare them to a Digipack. It's not hard to see who wins out on art and design. The Repo Man Digipack is absolutely incredible!

I don't know. I take care of these things.

And I hate plastic on principle. So there's that.

ETA: BTW, speaking of DigiPaks, do you think they will ever upgrade Pandora's Box? What a beautiful package that is. Granted, the DVD is pretty good. But I would love a BD edition.

I have a solution for both types of people.

Make plastic encased DigiPaks!

Yes, you heard me right! Create a stretchable or elastic plastic sleeve that fits evenly over the DigiPak so that way it doesn't get banged up as much. This can please everyone then!

I realize every DigiPak is different in terms of thickness, but offering plastic sleeves as accessories to the DigiPak would be a nice addition, esp. if its a "one size compliments all" type of plastic sleeve.

There is a practical reason for why they go with the Digipaks packaging - the booklets they use for their digipak releases is too thick for the ordinary case.

Hate when people ***** and moan about digipaks - look at the releases this month, how many were plastic cases and how many digipak style.

Let us, who like collecting digipaks enjoy these releases, you get enough plastic cases so stop moaning about it.

If you hate them so much, just order a plastic case, scan artwork in and make your own plastic case release - they aren't making so many digipaks that you can keep up.

Simple as.

Overtime there is a plastic case release I will come on here and moan, like those do with digipaks and you will see how annoying it is.

I reckon they would upgrade it to be a plastic case? Like they did with Bicycle Theives and Double Life of Veronique?

Well my comment to buy plastic cases was just because I have received a broken one, and now the replacement is broken too such a hassle.

I already love digipaks, but now I love them a little more.

This is what I had to put up with (hence Amazon ban)!

Damn Customs lol >.<

And don't get me started don the amount of plastic cases I received MELTED. YES MELTED. Must've been the vacuum packs some sellers used lol (looked like a thicker bin bag stuck to the case as the envelope).

Wholly agree. People who don't like the Digipacks should get over it. Criterion, if you're reading this, PLEASE release more Digipacks! Don't do a plastic case because people will complain about about the Digipacks, do what YOU want!

Back in the day you could buy these clear cases, similar to the ones you can get now for steelbooks, to protect your Warner snapper cases - it kept them mint and prevented them from looking like the cheap crap they were. Something like that would be good for digipacks, but I have many and not one shows any sign of wear, so wouldn't be for me.

(I do buy the cases for my steelbooks though - how ironic that a hard material like steel has to have extra special protection compared to throw away plastic!)

Plastic digipaks or not, they definitely need to make sturdier digipaks. The cardboard used for their current digipaks is way too soft.
