Something tells me Criterion's new deal with FilmStruck might be something that opens Criterion's library to more and more films with various studios. Warner especially. Looking forward to seeing what else they might aquire that will be delivered via FilmStruck and potentially in their Bluray Library.

My thoughts exactly. I'm sure that this has been the gateway to letting Criterion release WB titles.

It's important to remember that this will be a two-tier platform.

The standard service will offer a curated selection of films, which will change regularly.

The premium service will include a Criterion channel and will "offer continual access to [their] library of more than 1,100 films, along with their special features" (Peter Becker's words).

So it's really not that different from the free weekly offerings on Hulu and the larger Criterion channel on Hulu+.

The new streaming service sounds good to me, but my main worry is cost. Hulu Plus is only $7.99 a month. This new service has the Criterion Channel as a premium add-on in addition to the base price of FilmStruck. This could very well work out to something like $15 to $20 a month.

Ah, I see. I didn't know any Criterion titles would be offered without the Criterion add-on service. Thanks

Does anyone know, or assume, that this will be 1080p streaming? As far as I know, all HD titles on Hulu stream at 720p. While the HD Criterion titles look decent enough to enjoy exploring the wide library, it would be nice to see them in better resolution.

Regarding cost, I might pay $15 — if it was all 1080p.

I haven't seen The Tenant. Maybe they could release that immediately after The Pianist.

If you like Repulsion/Rosemary's Baby there's a good chance you would like The Tenant too. I wonder why it has never been released on Blu Ray, its his best movie IMO. Dark and funny at the same time. :P

Speaking of The Pianist, has it ever been put out on Blu Ray in the U.S? I thought such things happened only in my country (actually it seems like BD is slowly dying around here, but thats a different topic...)

Actually, as much as I like The Tenant (though it has been a while since I've seen it), I've always thought that Repulsion is his best film.

But then, Catherine Deneuve has my number, so ...

I believe someone already mentioned he received the Code Unknown replacement disc, I just received mine and FYI it does say second pressing on the disc, so everyone need to check their disc in case it doesn't say that.

Also along with it I received a replacement plastic case which unfortunately was also crushed , guess I need to buy the scanavo cases directly from that website someone posted some time ago, Criterion needs to improve their packaging materials.

Casetopia is definitely the place to go to pick up the Scanavo cases. You can also pick up the two and three disc Scanavo cases there. It's much cheaper than Criterion's website.

I'd bet you could do it with a VPN. I've heard of people in Canada using one to get Netflix up there.

Am I the only one on this site that really loves DigiBooks and DigiPaks? Sometimes it really seems like it.

Digipacks are a religion for some people. We must not alienate those of the Digipack religion. Personally, I'm all about plastic, but not a digipack hater either.

See, to me, I look at something like Breathless or Persona and I think: "This is just freakin' beautiful."

When I see a regular plastic case, it just looks like every other BD I own.
