I loved Boyhood when it came out, but lord does it not stand up over time. I watched it a couple weeks ago and some of the acting and dialogue (the scene where the teen boys are drinking beer stands out) are absolutely cringeworthy.

I've been waiting for an upgrade of Short Cut for so long. In a 3 month period, my 2 favorite Altman's are getting released to Criterion Blu!

I will need to replace my Cronos & Devil's Backbone with this gorgeous looking Del Toro boxset.

I liked the other Ermanno Olmi films I've seen, so I'm curious about that, but I've never heard of The Executioner.

I'm also a huge Linklater fan. Although, I can barely make it through Dazed and Confused.

Nope. It's a fine movie, don't get me wrong, but I'd never call it "great".

And for those who haven't seen it, Tree of Wooden Clogs is a "nothing happens" slow movie (typical of Olmi) that manages to depict life. You can spend 3 hours in a lot worse company than this excellent movie.

Mike Leigh said about it: "Directly, objectively, yet compassionately, it puts on the screen the great, hard, real adventure of living and surviving from day to day, and from year to year, the experience of ordinary people everywhere."
