Sideways is on TV right now. I hope that Criterion releases Alexander Payne's films someday. Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt, and Sideways deserve upgrades.

Does anyone else agree?

Wasn't there speculation about Criterion releasing Election at some point?

Yes. As far as I know it's still in the works.

About Schmidt and Sideways are the only films of his I like enough to own. One of my favorite Jack performances in the former.

I've liked or loved everything from him. The only one I haven't seen is Citizen Ruth.

He is one director whose upcoming films I really look forward to.

Citizen Ruth is the only one that really "needs" a Criterion release, though the others would be awesome as well. Sideways, About Schmidt and Nebraska are all great.

And about half of them are obvious reseals - different type of wrapping and no sticker.

It's exasperating to say the least.
My OCD is not happy with receiving cases that's been previously handled by persons unknown - with sanitary habits unknown.

You can always carefully wipe the cases off with a cloth and some rubbing alcohol. I do that whenever I buy used items (especially CDs).

Discs are clean; Booklets seem fine; On the outside the cases are fine... But on the inside of "The Ice Storm" (in the disc tray) it has smudges... Which is... weird.

It is.
I do have OCD by the way. Not just being hyperbolic.

I'm desperately trying to not go down that road. It would lead to a place... well... much like Ray Jackson's GIFs.
I used to do so too. But the hassle became too much. So now I only buy new and sealed items - making it all the more annoying having "new" items turn out to be not as new as advertised.

But enough about me, I guess.

this may have been answered but has a date been rumored for the Dragon Inn release? Just saw the 4K DCP of it at the AFI Silver - and unlike the UK import review the yellow tinged image is no where as severe as the pics make it out to be.

His Girl Friday (I'm going off on It Happened One Night last November)
Until the End of the World (feels like a big release for November)

I'll be away at TIFF for eleven days and away for another week in September, and the NYFF is happening too. . . but I may try and find the ten hours to see these on the big screen.

I'm down with Lone Wolf and Cub, and I'm looking forward to seeing a Criterion release of the movies. I watched and loved the Lady Snowblood movies last weekend, I'm going to watch the Female Prisoner Scorpion movies this weekend, and I've got Stray Cat Rock on the watch list, so the Lone Wolf films fall in line with that sort of awesome insanity...at least from what I remember when I watched Shogun Assassin as a kid.

I've had a hankering to watch Equinox again, and, although the source material is crude, I'd love to see a Blu-ray upgrade announced at some point.
(I still own the Criterion DVD, so all I have to do to revisit the movie is reach into my DVD collection, but, well, you know...)

I'd love another classic-era film noir, of course. A Criterion release of Billy Wilder's The Lost Weekend would suit me just fine.

Seriously Criterion...

I've been thinking for about 10 years that the words: Criterion... Blu-ray... Tarkovsky... Andrei Rublev... were a no-brainer.

10 years and still no Criterion release of this majestic film. What's happening? Did they lose the rights or something?
