This is one of the most accessible months for Criterion I've seen in a long time. Basically you have 2 very contemporary films that are in my opinion a great fit for the collection: Punch Drunk Love and The Squid and the Whale. I love both directors a helluva lot (P.T. Anderson and Noah Baumbach) and usually watch every film they make. I've seen both of these films and like them quite a bit (though its truly been maybe at least 6 or 7 years since I've watched PDL. Def. going to buy both though.

I'm totally psyched for Akira Kurosawa's Dreams too. Man, I remember buying the Warner DVD and then this went out of print and I saw it going for $50+ on Amazon (used)! So this is an essential upgrade for me, generally speaking (from the DVD I still own). It's a quintessential art film from one of the masters of cinema.

And damn, Marlon Brando is back for another round (no pun intended). I'm not sure I'm going to buy this since I've yet to see One Eyed Jacks, and I'm not big on westerns, but I'll def. consider this. Everyone out there knows who Marlon Brando is!

The Lone Wolf and Cub collectors set doesn't interest me however much, so I'll take a pass on this release.

Overall, this is a really nice month of releases.

Oh, and I forgot to add... Welcome to the Criterion Collection, P.T. Anderson! It's been a long time coming... and I'd like to see Hard Eight next.

Okay, that restoration article of a year ago got a lot of us excited. Now we're reaping the second-tier Frankenstein films, and now One-Eyed Jacks.
Can the also promised Marx Bros. films be far behind ?

The sooner the better. Has there been any word on Universal's willingness to license the Marx films they own?

I believe A Night at the Opera is owned by Warner Brothers and seems like a Warner Archive candidate.

I was so lucky that I've never done more than tape their films off TCM, so this late in life, my first home video of the Marx Bros. will be restored Blu rays.
I'm very happy right now.

Long overdue. One of the most underappreciated comedians of our generation. Perhaps someday, french critics will rediscover him and sing his praises like they did with Jerry Lewis.

(Seriously though, I'm not as down on Sandler as most are. I still like his first few comedies )
