Ha! I can relate, Ray. I had Bad Santa on my flat screen early one evening when my folks made a surprise visit to my place. They'd gone out to my favorite Italian restaurant, and were bringing me dinner. You can imagine how awkward it was when my mother walked in, and heard "f#ck me, Santa, f#ck me, Santa, f#ck me Santa" in surround sound. Yeah. When I hear a knock at the door now, I make sure to turn on the Weather Channel, or ESPN.

Oh, and regarding Chloe Sevigny...apparently, she has a real issue with directors now, too.

Chloë Sevigny: ‘I now have total disdain for directors’

Huh. I didn't read the article, as I don't want to spend my time absorbing the tortured musings of a 40 something former "it" girl. But it hardly comes as a surprise. This wouldn't be the first time that somebody she worked with left a bad taste in her mouth.

To this day my mom still refuses to go to the movies with me without reading several reviews about it first.

...true story.

Wim Wenders' The Beautiful Days At Aranjuez is getting trashed at TIFF. It sounds like a stale version of My Dinner With Andre.

I lost track of him after he started HILARIOUSLY and super edgily selling his ***** and sexual services with super racist language on his website. Francis Ford Coppola's still hiring him, though.

Buffalo 66 is still pretty rad.

Was interested in getting the region B of "Wise Blood" (which is released today), but it looks as if it won't have subtitles (common enough in the UK, sadly.)

What are the chances of Criterion upgrading their DVD to blu? Are they completely haphazard about that, or is it worth contacting them to ask?

That does make me feel a little old. I recall being in my final year of high school when I saw that on home video. In fact, I had just finished high school! Time flies.

Judging from that film, I never thought Rosario Dawson would end up being so attractive, but that's an entirely different matter. I'll never forget the controversy surrounding that film. In Australia it was rated R, and our R is restricted to people 18 and over. Unlike the US, you can't get into R films with a parent or guardian if you are under 18, so I couldn't see it at the end of 95, which really pissed me off. A lot of critics and social commentators at the time felt the film should have been 15 (15+) to give older teens a chance to see it.

Autumn Sonata at local cinema for a fiver

I am in desperate need of a depressing film to bring me out of this depression - comedies just piss me off, hate seeing happy people when I'm low.

Well if I see someone suffering more than me then I feel a tad better in a non psychopath manner.... Normally I go to Antichrist but this film is phenomenal, just pure emotion, no gimmicks.

Happy people just don't do it for me lol

Oh god. I recently blind watched Midnight Cowboy when I was home sick with a chest infection not realising that a main plot point of the movie was a chest infection...

How about you do a depression jag watch with an Autumn Sonata chaser of The Misfits?

wow I don't think I've ever seen this thread so dead.

Watched Gate of Hell again last night and kept thinking its a shame this is the only movie by the director available on disc. With no special features at all Such a wonderful movie. I wish Criterion would atleast release Page of Madness . Would of made a great Special Feature on the disc and hopefully opened the film up for a better appreciation. One of the best silent films ever made IMO.

Also watched my DVD of Jigoku again. Such a crazy movie, but it amazes me the writer in the booklet seems completely lost about who the Tamura character is. Asking how he appears out of nowhere and even shows up after he dies. I think anyone who sees the film who can't understand who Tamura is needs to rewatch it. I would jump at a Bluray if the film gets a restoration.

Just judging by the teaser trailer -- so yeah. But just judging by that, I really hope that La La Land is added into the Collection. It looks spectacular, has a great cast, and it's a freakin' musical!

Clearly they will add stuff that's very new, like Two Days, One Night. So maybe we will get this. I know I'm going a bit crazy here, but a musical with Gosling and Emma Stone? And as beautiful as it looks? This would be a great addition.

I basically hope every month for a Price is Right moment where I ask the ladies whether I have at least one guess right. His Girl Friday would make me the happiest for sure. Also interested in Tampopo, sounds like a funny movie.
