Yeah, I saw Bob in either 1985 or 1986 -- too long ago for me to remember honestly. I also saw him sometime in the early 90s. Both were stunning shows. He is not only a great songwriter but one heck of a performer. Also Peter Gabriel on his So tour in 1986. Saw the Grateful Dead a couple times about that time as well.

*sigh*

I miss those days.

I managed to get a second order in a minute before the sale ended. Picked up Rosemary's Baby, Diabolique, and Dress to Kill. All blind buys except for Rosemary which I don't remember much about.

Also, my first order shipped so hopefully the second isn't far behind.

Oooh, nice choices! I really should have picked up Rosemary's Baby and Diabolique come to think of it. Not sure why I didn't. Darn!

Thanks! I wanted to get M and Kuroneko, but they went out of stock before I got the chance. And don't worry about not getting Rosemary's Baby and Diabolique. BN's sale is just around the corner!

Saw him numerous times. The best was a mid 60;s show in Detroit backed up by the Hawks(later to become The Band).

Once for me, it was Dylan and The Band touring in 1974.

I'm mostly just a fan of his early stuff, of course early for me is ancient for many here, but mid-70s would be my cutoff, I'm not really familiar with anything much later than that.

From what I've read, the Kino will have a couple of commentaries instead of the two French-language shorts and maybe the other MoC extras. So, you did good I'd say.

I've seen him twice. The first was in a large arena, in the early 2000s, and every song was infused with a kind of Caribbean, steel drum type beat. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting it to be like, and in all honesty went down as one of the bigger disappointments in my musical history. This was later fixed, alas, with a much more intimate performance in a tiny London venue, some years later. I was stood on the front row, next to a deaf man, no less, and he played in a much more straightforward style. He closed out the show with an encore of Like A Rolling Stone, All Along The Watchtower and a cover of The Clash's London Calling (the show was in London).

[Show spoiler]and I've listened to quite a few of his albums. Played a bunch of newer stuff. It wasn't a great performance to be honest. I saw Dylan about 10 years ago and he was much better when I saw him this past week. He really was on top of his game. Played "Tangled Up in Blue", "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", "Things Have Changed", "Highway 61 Revisited", "Desolation Row", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right" among others and absolutely killed.
I saw Van about ten times in the 80s and 90s and usually he put on a fantastic show; at the time I reckoned he was easily one of the best performers out there. I also liked that his shows were never the deafening wall of sound like you get nowadays, which allowed an amount of audience noise and atmosphere.

Then I got married and got out of going to many gigs, but my sister saw him play an open air gig at Crathes Castle (near Aberdeen) where he shuffled on, sang three songs with his back to the audience then walked off stage without a word to anyone, half way through the fourth song. The band played on for a bit, looking confused, before the beer cans started hitting the stage. She rants about it to this day

A friend and I went to see Bob Dylan perform at a small 1,000-capacity venue here in Atlanta back in 1997. We stood near the stage, and we were about 10 feet away from Dylan the entire time.
Just before Dylan took stage, we saw a bunch of people around us pointing up at the balcony, and we looked up there to see that President Jimmy Carter and his entourage had appeared, and were taking up the first two balcony rows. A couple of times during the show, I saw Carter dancing to the music.

Incidentally, I saw Echo And The Bunnymen in concert last night. This was the fifth time that I've seen them in concert. They were playing Dylan songs on the loudspeakers before taking stage.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but The 400 Blows is getting a re-release on January 10th, making it the third edition to come out. I imagine this one will be switched to a standard case,, which is presumably what is happening with the third iteration of Breathless coming out next month.

I saw Bob Dylan never. And that has been enough for me.

Kudos, too, to Van Morrisson for not playing Brown Eyed Girl or other popular songs live. Sorry to have such a dissenting opinion, but he's probably sicker to death of that song than I am.

Well, it's one thing when Dylan plays new stuff because his new stuff is mostly good. It's another thing when Van plays mostly new stuff because his new stuff is pure shit. Not saying he has to play "Brown Eyed Girl" because we've all heard that song a million times, but throw the crowd a few bones. Not a Dylan fan?

No. Interestingly, though, I enjoyed some of the music in Inside Llewyn Davis - particularly one of the songs that Oscar Isaac plays early on in the film.

I also really enjoy The Beatles' You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, which is supposed to be some kind of nod to Dylan's style... Oh, and Donovan's Catch The Wind.

but for some reason, despite liking stuff that is 'like' him or inspired by him, I've never really felt an inclination to explore his discography or even continue to listen, for that matter, if a song of his were to come on somewhere.

Fair enough. Dylan's discography is worth exploring even if you're initially turned off. I get that some people are turned off by his vocals (My GF for example, so I had to take my buddy to the concert). If anyone doesn't like "Blood on the Tracks", "Blonde on Blonde", or "Highway 61 Revisited", I think it would most likely have to be based on disliking the vocals because the songwriting, structure, and pure musical talent on those albums is hard to dispute.

There was some discussion in the Twilight Time thread about distributors perhaps limiting new releases to include only around 4 titles per month. The thought is that the market is over saturated. Both TT (not sure which month they are announcing for off the top of my head) and Criterion (Jan 2017) recently announced only 4 titles.

I have a modest sized collection and while I am interested in many titles, I usually only pick up ones that I am unequivocally interested in; ones I know I’ll have the desire and time to watch. Even with that said, my CC wish list for this fall’s sales is around 10 deep and that only includes 1 older release.

There have been a lot of great releases this year. For me, it is exciting to see Olive step up their game. Warner Archive has been great. Cohen is always interesting to me.

…and yet there seem to be a lot of films out there that we’re all clamoring for!

How do you guys feel about distributors dialing down their output?

If you intend to cancel your Hulu subscription (as Filmstruck is on its way), make sure to do a Pending Cancellation, not Immediate Cancellation.

A Pending will cancel future billings, but maintain your access to Hulu for the remainder of what you've paid for (up until what would have been the next billing date).

An Immediate will cancel future billings AND your Hulu access, immediately.

I made a mistake and customer service had to help me out.

As much as I love seeing favorite movies and intriguing blind buys out on the market right now, I think that it's become too much of too much in 2016, and that the market is collapsing under its own weight from multiple monthly releases by more and more specialty/cult studios. It's impossible these days to keep up with everything awesome that is being released out there now.

I wouldn't mind seeing fewer releases from distributors out there in 2017, just so I can catch up on unwatched Blu-rays and so that I can give my wallet a break.

My own purchasing habits will be changing in the new year. I've thought about limiting my purchases to classic-era film noir releases, but I probably won't go that far with the self-limitations. I'll be more judicious with my blind buys, though, especially with the non-limited-edition stuff.

It's not just me, though. Certain Twilight Time titles used to sell out almost overnight. These days, however, I'm seeing more titles staying on the market for months and months, even the cult horror titles that used to sell out quickly. Twilight Time is resorting to sales to move the items, as are labels like Kino Lorber.

Unless the number of releases are directly effecting profitability, what would be the benefit?
