The best part of Intolerable Cruelty is Billy Bob Thornton.
I personally find The Coens to be the most interesting American filmmakers currently working. A Simple Man and Inside Llewyn Davis are among the strangest and fantastic films of the decade, and no one else could have made them. |

I noticed that the flash sale didn't extend the discount to criterion posters.
I was wondering what's the best way to get Criterion artwork? i'm hoping to eventually get the Lone Wolf & Cub art (if they release it as a print). Is the criterion site the only outlet to buy their prints from? |

Agreed. Although I'll admit to laughing out loud in the theater for about 5 full minutes at the Weezy Joe scene.

I'm trying to see several horror/thriller titles this month. I've finished a few first watches over the last several nights:
- Empire of Passion: You could definitely see a continuation of Realm of Senses not only with the lead male character, but also the results that snowball from too much "love". A solid film that provided a nice feeling of impending doom. 8/10 - Jigoku: For 1960 this must have been something. Eerie vibe throughout that really went off the rail in the last 30 minutes. I'm not sure if the intent was to be ridiculous and cheesy like House (which I LOVE) or what. Lots of "What the...?" moments. 7/10 - White Dog: My favorite Samuel Fuller film. It was like Jaws and Cujo meets American X. Really enjoyable even if it did seem very 80ish at times. 8/10 |

![]() They have updated since I last used but I use this site: http://www.movieposterdb.com or https://www.cinematerial.com Just make sure you download the larger size poster for better poster prints (duh :P) But yeah they have a large selection of Criterion (and alternate) artworks - all the ones I have got have been great ![]() |

Last night I watched a very interesting Criterion film on Hulu that I had never seen before.
...a picture by the great American auteur, Mikhail Bay, director of such classic arthouse gems as Mauvais Garçons and La Roche. It's been a long time since I've seen a film with such multi-layered thematic depth...a simple humanist treasure in the tradition of Ozu and Kurosawa. A fascinating allegory of the moral decline of modern civilization and the disintegration of the nuclear family. The astroid is clearly a metaphor, but for what? ...the inevitability of fate? ...divine retribution for man's original sin? There's so many possibilities, but no way to know for sure, as Bay masterfully delineates a clear narrative structure, while subtly weaving in perplexing layers of subtext and ambiguity. And the acting is in a word... sublime. In particular, Michael Clarke Duncan delivers a performance for the ages...full of pathos and vulnerability...dancing along the edges of existential reality. [Show spoiler] Ultimately I have just five words for Mulvaney and the rest of the cinematic Noah's Ark known as the Criterion Collection: Damn glad you released this picture. ...to ensure that it will never be lost to the abyss of history. |

Damn it, the hackers got to Criterion.com as well? DAMN YOU, internet rabble-rowsers!
Also, got my copy of BBS Story and the Del Toro trilogy. I didn't expect the Trilogy set to be as wide as it is; sticks out of the shelf a bit too long for my taste. Quote:

I can't think of a Billy Bob Thornton film performance that I have not admired. I haven't seen everything that he has been in, of course, but I have seen him in Sling Blade, A Simple Plan, Monster's Ball, Bad Santa, The Man Who Wasn't There, The Apostle, Dead Man, and Tombstone, (although, I haven't seen that since 1993) and his acting has been sublime in all of them. Heck, I will even throw in films in which he can only be heard: Puss in Boots and Princess Mononoke (English-language version.)
