Feel free to list your percentage.
Criterion did released 2001 and Citizen Kane, well, way back on Laserdisc ... as matter of fact, if not mistaken, Citizen Kane was Criterion's very first release.

Oh, wow, I wasn't aware of that. I guess it serves me right for not having been a laserdisc collector. I was still glued to VHS back in those days.

To be honest, I've only been collecting select Criterion films for maybe ten years or so. I think my first one was a DVD of "And God Created Woman..." (1956) with the luscious Brigitte Bardot. I still have it on my shelf. It looks like it was put out in 2000 and has a spine number of 77.

Going to get myself a print done I think, beautiful artwork!
Any tips for printing something like this out at home?

I have a budget photo printer with (I think) 8.5x11 photo paper. It does a pretty nice job of printing, all things considered. But I'm a newbie at this. I'm seeing two options on my printer: one that cuts off some of the image and another that gives me the full image but bordered. Any way I can get the full image without a border?

P.S. Is this image available anywhere?

Thanks so much!

Your best bet is using a website where you upload artwork and they print and send to you tbh but if you want a borderless print at home, you can either print full image and then crop the white border youself or print with border and then frame with a mount to hide the white border on print.

I personally hate printing and image and having it cropped D: !

Ive always used:

https://www.photobox.co.uk/shop/wall-decor/posters

They have always sent great quality prints and when I have had issues they have always resent the print or offered vouchers. Even when one of the faults was my own (selected wrong print size).

But the prints I got look great and very professional! Also the site does alert you on what the print quality will be if you want to enlarge!

(also didn't realise how beautiful this artwork is until I saw the hi res details!)

I would love to get a framed 27x40 sized poster of The Night and The City for my home office.

...aka my bedroom.

...where the magic happens.

Thank you so much for finding that!!!

Thank you also for your great printing advice.

I will experiment at home first because I already have the ink and paper, so I may as well. If my results prove unsatisfactory, I'll turn it over to the professionals.

If I manage to get good prints at home, I'll snap some pics and share with the thread.

All this talk of posters got me thinking...

I recently applied for a management position at another office. If I get it (or any management position where I get my own office), I'd love to have a framed movie poster on the wall, the same way House MD did. Since I'm in the logistics field, my first choice would have to be a Wages of Fear poster. Probably this one:

Just waiting to see if I'll be selected or not...

...then again, I suppose I could just get it and hang it up at work regardless of my position. I already decked out my current office with the Carrie poster from the SF edition, and a bunch of slipcovers.

The truth "comes out" ?!?!?! Since when didn't we know this?

As to how many of my Top 10 are or were on Criterion, that's an interesting question. I don't really have a Top 10, as it's always changing, and there are simply too many films I haven't seen. But ...

If I had to name some from the films that probably would be in or near my Top 10, and ones I actually OWN or did own (not necessarily in order or anything):

Contempt (Godard, 1963) -- I had this on DVD from Criterion (#171). I now have the Studio Canal release on Blu.

Three Colors: Red (Kieslowski, 1994) -- Simply gorgeous, moving, thoughtful, compelling. In short, it's what films should be. I have it in the form of the Trilogy, which is #587. I had had the DVD version, but I don't remember the spine.

La Dolce Vita (Fellini, 1960) -- Love this release. This is what film is. #733.

Persona (Bergman, 1966) -- #701 is one of the most powerful psychological films ever made. Then again, Bergman. So, what do you expect?

Mulholland Dr. (Lynch, 2001) -- Lynch's masterpiece, #779, is one that I cried for over and over and over again ... and finally got!

L'Avventura (Antonioni, 1960) -- Easily one of my favorites, and I could include the other two in the trilogy, but I'm tired of typing. #98

There are numerous Godard films I could list. And others. But like I said, tired of typing.

I really don't know my top 10 films, but I have my top 5 favorite films set in stone...

5. Before Sunrise - Hopefully entering the collection soon! *fingers crossed*

4. E.T. The Extra Terrestrial - Nope, and there's really no reason for this to be in the CC

3. City Lights - Spine #680

2. Mulholland Drive - Spine #779

1. Pulp Fiction - Released by Criterion back in the laserdisc days. I don't see them ever releasing it today.

My first try at a Criterion print. What do you guys think?

The colors aren't exact, but I think that's just the nature of my printer. I did accidentally set it to plain paper instead of photo paper, but I'm not sure if that made a difference because the dimensions are the same and I had photo paper in the tray.

Underneath it is Life Magazine's special Film Noir issue (the actual magazine, not a print, lol).

The only movie in my top 10 that's in the collection is...

Currently my #1 pick, although there's a chance my opinion could swing more in Samsara's favor, I'm not sure which movie I prefer more right now. Both, and Baraka, are film experiences I value the most.

There's not a chance in heck my other favorites will get the Criterion treatment, they're all franchise movies. Although, it would be nice to see Lawrence of Arabia, The Passion of the Christ, and maybe Kill Bill added (the latter would be especially nice if it's the Whole Bloody Affair edition, finally).

Can't really tell that colours are off in the pic imo - I reckon you could get away with it you going to frame it?

Thank you. I'm happy with it myself. I could compare the original image to my print and nitpick, but I think it turned out well considering the cheap equipment I'm working with (off-the-shelf Walmart printer that's a few years old, photo paper bought from Walmart, etc.).

Definitely going to frame it!

I'll probably get two frames and maybe try printing Lone Wolf and Cub next.

It's tough to do top 10 or top 20 lists because I always inevitably think of about 50-100 movies I would want to put in a top 10. I'd say, off the top of my head, "8 1/2", "The 400 Blows", "Nashville", "McCabe and Mrs. Miller", "Persona", "City Lights", and "High and Low" would be among my favorite films of all-time. Another film that snuck up on me with how amazing it is would be "An Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion".
