When does the sale end? Only want to pick up 2 but Punch Drunk Love doesn't come out until the 15th.

Fairly big order:
Squid and The Whale
My Own Private IDaho
Eraserhead
Persona
Dazed and Confused
Repulsion
Blind Chance
Rosetta
Dekalog

I've only seen Squid and the Whale and Dazed and Confused so I'm excited to check some of these out.

Barnes and Noble sale time again, woohoo!!!

This cycle, I'll stick with just a few. Blood Simple is the one I want the most. It's a decent noir flick--I have a copy in the Coen Bros box set, but will gladly upgrade it. I recently rented Eyes Without a Face, and although it didn't really captivate me like I hoped, the imagery is a great standout and it does make me want to give the film a second chance. I gotta blind-buy something for the thrill of it too, so the third title I ordered up is Speedy. It just looks and sounds classy.

Later this month, I'll order Kurosawa's Dreams. Didn't want to preorder it now because of shipping, whereas at the end of the month I can combine it with something else and get free shipping. Yes, I spend more to avoid $2, that's how cheap I can be. Nah, by then I'll probably eyeball something else I'll want.

OK, this is the dumbest question ever, but ...

How does the B&N sale work? Do you have to be a member of some sort? Can you just go to the store? Etc.

I've never taken part in it.

Going to buy a lot less than normal at the sale, partly because I can get the UK versions and the poor £ means there is not much saving. Put in an order today so I could use BNRMN20 to get 20% off the whole order (as long as you buy $40 worth of non-Criterion stuff).

I ordered the Marx Brothers collection for $43 with five Criterions to get $34 extra discount:

Works out at roughly £15.88 per unit, assuming I escape customs.

That'll be it for the sale, unless there's a spectacular Good Friday coupon at the end... (oh, who am I kidding? I know I'll end up placing another order this sale ).

Edit: AaronJ - you don't need to be a member; you can buy online or instore. Check out the sale thread for possible coupons etc.

It's an open sale, both online and in store. You don't need to be a member, although members will get an additional 10% off (I think), just like they would with any purchase. All titles are 50% of the SRP, which puts many of them at $19.99. Online, if you spend over $25 you get free shipping.

I should not be making such expensive orders when I don't start job till next month and not been at work last 2 months! but oh well, who needs food?!
Rather puzzled at the double-dip since both are pricey sets (even at 50% off) and majority of the content is the same (apart from Criterion being compromised in their display frame-rate and Arrow using a different aspect ratio than the original television screening). It is very likely that Artificial Eye will put out the feature-length films missing from Arrow's set, so doesn't seem to me much reason beyond a collector's fetish to pick up both versions.

I dunno, just nice owning both sets

I love Arrows release, but one silly reason to double dip was I love Criterions artwork... thinking now I woulda been better just buying the artwork itself... I dunno.

Actually, good point lol - Have cancelled that and will order 3 standard releases

I bought both as well. Criterion was a given for me, and the Arrow set had a lot of additional content.

Yah after my last post, I decided to keep the order cause its nice to own both and support both companies!

Plus it's nice having them both in both collections! Criterion wins with the package design but Arrow defo wins with content! Worth every penny I say!

I did decide to add My Own Private Idaho and Lone Wolf & Club - Lots of sexy packages coming my way!

Speaking of design and Lone Wolf... how sexy does it look!!!

So this is what i got, havn't ordered so many Criterions in a LOOOONG time, it feels so good, especially removing titles from my wish list...

(as you can see from my signature I am having to sell some of my duplicate Arrow sets to fund the above )

I made my first haul at my local Barnes & Noble store, and as usual, they spoiled me. I had two snail mail 20% off coupons, and they allowed me to use each one of them twice. So I got the following four Criterions for $13.67 each:

Blood Simple
Short Cuts
Valley of the Dolls
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

$39.99 each less 50% =
$19.99 each less my 10% membership discount =
$17.99 each less my 20% off coupon =
$14.39 each less my instant 5% Barnes and Noble MasterCard discount =

$13.67 each final price

I also bought myself a $75.00 gift card, because it came with an additional $10.00 gift card free of charge. I do love Barnes & Noble!

I just want to let you all know that I'm now the proud owner of a brand new, healthy, 11.2 ounce copy of Dekalog...$43 after 15% off coupon in store.

It's so beautiful.

I think it has my eyes.

...cigars for everyone!

Whoa! Never heard of that. And in theory should be impossible as each physical coupon has a serial number which one would think would cancel it out of the system after the first use. But then again, we are talking about the crazy and completely inconsistent world of B&N here. Anyway, happy for you!

I went nuts in July, when I picked up 30 titles. Just On the Waterfront, Blood Simple, and A Taste of Honey for me today. Will also pick up One-Eyed Jacks and Dreams when they are released later in the month - thankfully, before the sale ends.

Edit:

Over in the dedicated B&N sale thread people are reporting that the 20% member sale coupons are not scanning, and Criterion titles were added today to the official list of coupon exclusions. Some getting manual overrides, but others getting refused. I was saving my two 20% coupons for the titles released later this month, and will still give it a go. But looks like the July coupon debacle has B&N spooked and they are battening down the hatches.
