I've probably seen this movie about 50 times, and I love it more with each viewing. I would really love to see this one picked up by Criterion someday, because it's still a relevant work that merits study. It's a tear-jerker, but it's also hilarious in many ways, and it has some of the most likable characters that I've seen in any film.

I just rewatched this last week. Fantastic film and still as relevant as ever.

I love it. Some scenes are pretty silly, but I just go along with it because visually it's so consistently brilliant.

These made it today from the Barnes & Noble sale. I would've added It Happened One Night, but it had to wait until the next sale.

Multiple academy awards and likely criterion bluray release next year or the following.

I think it's brilliant from start to finish. I LOVE it. I don't say that much about movies.

I had high hopes that the Black Friday 30% off coupon would work but when I tried to use it on Dekalog, the CSR told me its not just store policy but company policy not to honor that coupon (and it states in the fine text that Criterion releases are not part of the discount either).
I've been to 3 different stores around the Kansas City area, and the cashiers at 2 of the 3 stores referenced the same printout when checking why my coupon wouldn't work. The 3rd one told me, without even scanning it, that they couldn't accept them on the Criterion Collection releases because they were currently on sale.

The good news is, pretty much the entire blu-ray section is 30% off through tomorrow, and they will let you use the coupon on those. I picked up the Olive release of Rio Grande today for about $15.

Can't remember seeing this documentary on Toshiro Mifune mentioned here. Looks like a must-see:

When Criterion makes box sets, do they have individual films inside the set or are they all part of the same case? (really hoping its the former).

Most are individual. Only Zatoichi, World Cinema Project, and Lone Wolf are not.

Lol I didn't care for Moonlight, felt like a blend of Boyhood and Boyz n the Hood to me (and both of those I like better). I couldn't stop giggling at the clunkiness of that diner scene at the end.

I'm thinking about making my final purchase a safe "comfort buy" of The Killers, or a swing-for-the-fences blind buy of Short Cuts.

Thoughts?

My emotional stability may depend on the outcome.

If I buy Short Cuts and it doesn't work out...things could get weird around here.

Short Cuts is great and one of Altman's best, so I'd say it depends on how much of an Altman fan you are. Unless you're dying to revisit The Killers ASAP, I'd go with Short Cuts.

David Ehrlich did, however, give De Palma a glowing review. I highly recommend people check it out on Amazon Prime.
