This probably has more to do with licensing than othe issues.

And to MassiveMovieBuff, if you didn't like Gangs Of New York, which I did like, you may want to blame Harvey Weinstein for the changes he forced Scorsese to make. That's why it isn't as good as it should be, but I still enjoyed it. I just wish we'd see his original vision, but he's an atheist when it comes to director's cuts (New York, New York is a different situation).
I would kill for a Criterion AOI release, the best film of 1993 and one of the most beautiful films get made. Now at least I can live with th German blu Ray release.

Criterion needs to release more Scorsese. What about his religious trilogy including Silence? I watched it the other day and it instantly become my favorite of 2016 and more.

The Most Dangerous Game
was actually a Criterion DVD, but it somehow made it over the wall without the Criterion guard towers seeing it, and it successfully defected over to Flicker Alley. The Blu-ray is really quite wonderful, as is the movie itself.

I ordered A Trip to the Moon at long last earlier today, after receiving the tipoff.
It doesn't help that The Most Dangerous Game is actually a Public Domain film. Same with Nanook of the North, which was a Criterion DVD, but a Flicker Alley Blu-ray.

I've been lax about trying out some of FA's releases, even though many of them intrigue me (some I already have on DVD, like the Chaplins). Because of the tipoff (thanks, mrjohnnyb), I bit for the Méliès (too bad the SteelBook wasn't still in print), and added Chaplin's Mutual Comedies.

Multiple Maniacs is a beautiful absurdist gross-out treasure and I'm excited it's getting a release! Here's hoping Criterion puts out Female Trouble and Desperate Living next. TBH Desperate Living had me laughing my ass off in minutes and I had to pause it. It's simply that ridiculous in the best way possible

As previously said, it's more a matter of licensing than anything else. Criterion did release Taxi Driver and Raging Bull on laserdisc back in the day, but obviously Sony wants to hang onto those for themselves for DVD and BD. Same with various of Scorsese's Warner and Universal titles.

The other title Criterion released on LD (aside from The Last Temptation of Christ) was A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies, which I'd love to see them do on Blu-ray. Unfortunately, Lionsgate has the rights, through their licensing deal with Miramax.

I'm glad you brought up "Desperate Living". It's the only film of John Waters that I've seen and like you, I laughed hysterically too. To all you out there who've seen this film, will I enjoy Multiple Maniacs as well? I'm all for blind-buys so I'll definitely give it a go.

On another note, I just watched The Asphalt Jungle last night for the very first time and absolutely loved it. Sterling Hayden was wonderful in this and I'm somewhat familiar with his work. I went ahead and watched one of the extras on the disc and he surely led an interesting life. I'd have never have known he looked at acting as a sole means to buy sail boats and travel the seas. Interesting indeed. I feel he was a better actor than he gave himself credit for.

Meeting John Waters tonight! Can't wait. Also, Multiple Maniacs is a masterpiece of trash. Probably my third or fourth favorite from Waters, certainly my favorite of his early works. Still need to see Female Trouble and Desperate Living though.

If you enjoyed Desperate Living, I have a very good feeling you'll enjoy Multiple Maniacs. It's just as absurd and ridiculous if not a lil more so.

Thank you for the heads up, mrjohnnyb. That's been on my want list for a while, but I'm not taking any chances with it going out of print. Ordered.

That's correct. Sorry for the confusion, but the Amaray's review link just leads to the Steelbook review. The discs are the same.

I own a few, including a couple Cinerama titles, Nanook of The North / Wedding of Palo (fabulous!) and Chaplin's Mutual Comedies. The Chaplin set I got as a metal box, with 2BD's and 3 DVD's. If you have the option I suggest the BFI set since the US release has lossy audio only and people have talked about audio sync issues with some of the shorts.

There was a Canadian release, don't know if still available. The UK release is around but it's in 1080i and supposed to run at 25fps.

I just finished watching my Universal Blu-ray of Holiday Inn.

The reason I'm mentioning this in the Criterion thread is that the film stars Majorie Reynolds, who plays a gorgeous femme fatale in Fritz Lang's Ministry of Fear, which is, in my opinion, one of the most underrated Criterion Collection titles.

After I get through some much-anticipated new titles this week, I'm thinking that I'll have to shake the dust off of Ministry of Fear, because it really is a visually spectacular title (and not just because of Reynolds).

Thinking about adding some Jarmusch to my collection.

Which one is better:

I'm in a minority on this film so that makes my opinion easy to dismiss, but I definitely liked it in the 90s. I guess it comes down to how much you like Altman's style from The Player onwards. I personally feel that he kind of lost his way after the mid 80s and perhaps even before. My appreciation for his 70s films, however, has only increased with time.

I'm almost scared to rewatch Short Cuts now. Haven't seen it in over 20 years, but I always liked it more than The Player.
