It could be that I just didn't "get it". It happens.

Years ago Ebert gave a glowing review to The Proposition. I went to the screening excited and was disappointed by the film which has a respectable 7.4 on IMDB.

I believe "Saint Jack" is coming out in the next couple months from Scorpion. It was confirmed in their thread recently.

Thanks for the info! Just checked their thread and they posted saying specs should be announced soon with a February release!

Actually...

I saw a terribly beaten up print the first time and, as a fan of Altman with high expectations for this, I was severely let down. The Criterion edition does improve the presentation drastically, visually and audibly—at least what's intended to be audible, I guess, since Altman intended much of the dialogue to be difficult ot hear due to being overlapped with background conversation. I left the 35mm screening a little nonplussed about why everyone thought it was so great, but am very happy I swung for the Criterion anyway, as it completely changed my opinion.

So, it might, actually! It did for me, and everything I've heard about the DVD indicates it was as subpar transfer through and through.

The "McCabe" DVD is really awful. I think of all of the DVDs I've owned over the years, the three worst I can think of are "McCabe and Mrs Miller", the Denzel-John Lithgow film "Ricochet" (arguably the worst DVD transfer I've seen), and "Extreme Prejudice". At least of fairly well-known titles. I watched the "McCabe" DVD on my big screen a year ago or so and it was nearly unwatchable.

Watched this a couple months ago after a blind buy. Really enjoyed it, and will watch again at some point.

Agreed, it is one I'd like to get an upgrade to as well. (I would say the same for Great Expectations, but I'm happy with my imported Region Free release there).

I absolutely suck at deciphering the clues in these Happy New Year! drawings.

The only two that I thought were easy and obvious were Seven (What's in the box?!) and Sixteen Candles. And quite frankly I would've never thought to count the number of candles if it hadn't already been mentioned here a billion times.

I couldn't get any of the others.

...does this mean I have a low IQ?

YES! Both of the Lean/Dickens films are high on my upgrade wishlist. John Howard Davies, who played the title role in Oliver Twist, also starred in one of my favorite films-The Rocking Horse Winner. It seems like a perfect candidate for the CC but I'm completely ignorant of who controls the rights to it. A quick search didn't find any Blu-ray releases. A shame-it's a very haunting film with excellent performances.

No I didn't get most of them either. I thought it was se7en as well but turns out it's a clue for a film called Mysterious Object at Noon. I suppose it could be a double clue but I'm not holding my breath.

Is that speculation or is there some sort of confirmation?

I have no idea, but quite frankly, we don't need a Criterion of Se7en IMO. It's a good movie, yes, but there's already a Blu-ray for it. I'd prefer if Criterion severely limited their double-dips, but that's just me.

They've been doing unnecessary double dips for quite a while now.

...the special features on the current Seven release are pretty weak.

A mysterious object - a box with a "?" on the front - attached to a clock set to 12 o'clock.

Madonna: Truth or Dare is available on FilmStruck. How cool would it be to have the Queen of Pop in the Collection?

I don't see them as definitively attached.

...perhaps the clock is a separate clue.

Hi,
I just received Strangelove from Amazon, no booklets, no "case candy". Before I go postal on Amazon, has anyone else had this happen?

Edit:
Amazon sending another out.

You can explore the library without subscription:

But Adaptation is one of those without the logo.

4 commentaries and (I believe) all the extras from the Criterion laserdisc? Criterion isn't revisiting it.

I hope not. The video and audio on the Warner's blu is pretty terrific and doesn't need a double dip, the potential for new supplements be damned.

The clue so many posters think is The Princess Bride is yet another title that doesn't need a third release on blu.
