Muriel is difficult to define. It's also not a good starting point for someone unfamiliar with Resnais.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't know the film either, but it looks like an interesting film. May have to blind buy this one.

Bitter Rice is great, and has some wonderful film noir elements to it. It is normally a 29.99 title, so it doesn't have much in the way of supplements, but the movie is worth it.

Now that I've gone region free, I'm having a pleasant struggle determining what possible future Criterion titles I should wait for. Onibaba for example. I'm tempted by the Eureka release, but there's no doubt this will be an upcoming release.

The Lady without Camelias (along with like fifteen other Eurekas) was a no brainer though. Even if it gets a Criterion release, I would gladly double dip.

It even has the Criterion logo on it, I have asked in the past for a release of this but wasn't sure if it was an actual possibility.

Oh man, that would be fantastic.

I'm hopeful for ADAPTATION after seeing it there too.

It's very confusing, I assume they at least have the rights for the ones with the logo, but there are many other Criterion titles without the logo, not sure if it was confirmed that the ones with the logo are the ones you need the Criterion specific subscription in order to see them.

Then they have the logo on some OOP titles, maybe they just have streaming rights on those.

I'm still waiting for Criterion's upgrade to Blu ray of Oliver Twist 1948 David Lean. Where the HELL is it ???? They release so much Junk on Blu ray ! A Spartacus upgrade Blu ray would be nice also. Universal's Blu is good for now.

‘Song to Song’ First Look: Terrence Malick’s Austin-Set Romantic Drama Lands New Title and Official Premise (Exclusive)

Quote:
After making just five movies between 1973 and 2011, Terrence Malick has released three more in the last few years. Despite being comparatively prolific in this most recent phase of his career, the media-shy filmmaker still manages to make each new work feel like an event unto itself.

IndieWire can exclusively confirm the new title and release date of his latest film: “Song to Song,” which Broad Green Pictures will release on March 17, 2017. (The film has previously been referred to as “Weightless.”)

Here’s the premise: “In this modern love story set against the Austin, Texas music scene, two entangled couples — struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress whom he ensnares (Natalie Portman) — chase success through a rock ‘n’ roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.”

In addition to the main quartet, a number of musicians appear as well: Patti Smith, Lykke Li, the Black Lips, Iggy Pop, Florence and the Machine, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Considering Fabio briefly appeared in last year’s “Knight of Cups,” that sounds about right.

Is ADAPTATION one with the logo? It doesn't feel farfetched that they would release it, but I don't have FilmStruck so I can't check myself (I only know they have the movie because a Facebook advertisement had stills from it).

After sticking with the god awful DVD and catching a beaten up print last year, viewing the release of McCable & Mrs. Miller was a revelatory experience, one that made me finally understand the constant gushing I've been hearing for years. I like how people cite it as one of the most beautifully shot films ever, when Zsigmond's photography is, in the best way, deliberately muddy and often cluttered with the occasional magic hour shot sandwiched in between.

And the sound mixing - oof.

I may have to give McCabe another try. My first viewing of it was years ago on DVD and I thought Beatty mumbled his way through the film.

From what I gather, a lot of the more prolific posters here don't like Italian movies...

I haven't got the BD yet, but I did see this movie in a theatre a few years back. It struck me as a gorgeously cinematic film on the big screen, with underrated sound design.

And those feet...

So, been on a mini Bogdanovich kick and I saw he did an AMA on reddit a while ago and when asked about Criterion doing Texasville and Saint Jack he stated:

Quote:
I hope it's true! There's been talk of them doing SAINT JACK and TEXASVILLE - I don't know if it's happening or not, but i hope it's true, because the correct director's cut of TEXASVILLE is not available generally, and I wish it were, because it's a better film than the released version.
Anyone know if these have been confirmed or completely thrown off the table? Just curious since I haven't seen either (yet) and I hear Texasville wasn't the greatest. Either way I'll be checking them out.
