I've been thinking about Fast Times at Ridgemont High ever since I read something about Amy Heckerling on Criterion's Facebook page a while back.
I'd gladly double-dip on my Universal Blu-ray for a Criterion release. ![]() |

I'll add to my list, some I simply forgot.
Ordinary People. Absolutely; I've been sending Criterion tweets about this very film. No blu-ray for this wonderfully touching film is mystifying. Redford's directorial debut hits every note right, and a high def release by Criterion would be a fitting homage to a great lady and actress, Mary Tyler Moore. "Oooooh, Mulvaney." The Elephant Man. I've not seen it, so this is purely a request on its reputation. Crash. Definitely an acquired taste, but I liked it. I don't know if it needs to be a Criterion release, but it does deserve a blu-ray. The cast alone makes it worth watching: James Spader, Holly Hunter, Rosanna Arquette, and two underrated actors, Elias Koteas (I've really liked him since seeing The Thin Red Line for the first time) and Deborah Kara Unger (great in The Game). Roman Holiday. I've only seen it once, about ten years ago, but I'm baffled this has yet to see blu-ray. This would be a great addition to the Collection. Gaslight. Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten and Charles Boyer. Yes, please! Quote:

Isn't there supposed to be an announcement for the next titles by now? Like isn't it the 14 of every month?
BTW, unrelated, anyone have any idea if there is going to be more animation? Like Svankmajer's Alice, Perfect Blue, Adventures of Prince Achmed? Anyone? |

Either they're doing it for a specific reason (announcing the August titles After Hours or announcing them on the 16th for Sixteen Candles, possibly?)or they forgot. However, their social media has been active today, so I don't see why they just could've forgotten.
As for more animation, there hasn't been any recent speculation, though Perfect Blue and AoPA would be great. |

Speaking of animation, I also that they look into The King and The Mockingbird, The Triplets of Belleville, and Mary and Max. |

Anyways, I was going to say it makes me sad that so few people seem to have seen this wonderful film. I got it in the first place for these reasons: -- First and foremost, I'm an unabashed Fassbender fan. I think the guy is pure magic and can make almost anything good, or possibly great. His filmography is like one miraculous performance after another (with a few exceptions, granted; but no matter how good you are, you still need quality material). -- The trailer looked fantastic. -- The story sounded interesting. -- Although I haven't yet seen Andrea Arnold's American Honey, something I need to remedy soon, I read a lot of good things about it. -- It won the Jury Prize at Cannes. So, when I finally saw the film I was blown away. Fassbender turned in his usual top-notch performance. But the real revelation was the girl who played the daughter, Katie Jarvis. When this film was made she was somewhere around 17. She was explosive and fascinating and tragic all at the same time. She was really something. She's got another film coming up that's in post right now, a revenge tale called Two Graves. But I don't think she's a main character. But I'll definitely see it just for her. The film itself is so good. Both Arnold's writing and her direction are more than solid, and the story is really engaging. It hits all the notes, high, low, and in between. And as I said, the performances are just wonderful. I really wish more people would see and talk about this film. I encourage anyone who enjoys small films that are character driven -- which I assume at least in this thread would be almost everyone -- to see this if they have the chance. Anyways, yeah, I liked the film. A lot. Obviously. ![]() There was one negative, but it's a funny one. It's set in some poor part of London. Movies set in certain parts of London, or Britain in general, often have me this close to turning on the subs. ![]() ![]() |
