I'm still waiting for Red Sun, which was an obvious clue a couple of years ago, and the UK just got a restored edition in late 2015. (and oddly enough, someone put up a phantom page here for the Canadian version of Red Sun and labeled it Criterion Collection).

Maybe it's just me but I've always though Peckinpaw dropped the ball with Garrett & the Kid. Doesn't help to have a grown man play a teenager. But, man Corburn was great in his role.

Not to drag away from the topic, but I always wondered why the DVD Pandora’s Box went OOP? Was it because of copyright like much of the Studiocanal material or something else? It would be a good BluRay release.

There were a lot of Criterion titles that were available on laserdisc and DVD but Criterion lost the rights like with The Third Man blu ray.

The only reason I bring it up is it isn't even available in the UK on BluRay like many of the Studiocanal stuff is.

I feel like I should be a bigger Peckinpah fan than I am.

The only one of his films I've seen that I really like is The Wild Bunch.

Saw Straw Dogs for the first time a couple months ago and wasn't very impressed. Garrett & The Kid has a handful of cool moments, but overall...meh. Same thing with Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia.

...the guy just doesn't really touch me in the G-spot right.

It's not really meant to be an accurate depiction of Billy the Kid. For me, it's incidental that the two main characters are based on real people. It's more of an acid western and I enjoy it for that aspect.

Will Tales Of Hoffman ever be re-released stateside? It has very election selection of directors in the special features.

"Convoy" is his masterpiece. You have to see that before declaring Peckinpah doesn't tickle your fancy, Ray.

Of all of Peckinpah's films, those are some of his most challenging. I would recommend you check out The Getaway, a cool early 70s crime flick and one of McQueen's best. And Kino is bringing out Junior Bonner later this year which is a surprisingly watchable family drama about an aging rodeo star.

"The Getaway" is an awesome film. Has that typical Peckinpah feel, but is a little more accessible than "Alfredo Garcia" or "Pat Garrett", two films I also love. "Cross of Iron", IMO, is his second best film after "The Wild Bunch".

"The Killer Elite" is Peckinpah's worst film IMO. "Convoy" is unbelievably stupid, but a fun way to pass a couple hours. "The Killer Elite" is one of the most incoherent messes of the 70s. Sam must have been really deep in the bottle on that one or perhaps the studio butchered it. Not sure, but it's quite the slice of insanity.

I rewatched The Getaway recently and was bored stiff. It was just an assignment and it shows.

Peckinpah definitely did it to regain marketability, but he is able to add enough of his personal touches to make it feel like a Peckinpah film IMO. Ali McGraw's very shitty performance is a problem though. When I think of Peckinpah in total assignment mode, I think of "The Killer Elite", "Convoy", or "The Osterman Weekend".

You should check out Ride the High Country (1962), a stellar recent release from Warner Archive and a film I only saw the first time around a month ago. I think it's my favorite Peckinpah now. I admit that I need to give the Wild Bunch another viewing. It's been a long time.
