We definitely need more Vláčil on blu ray as well.

On another note, I sort of wish some of the films on the Eclipse "Pearls of the Czech New Wave" boxset got separate releases. Most notably Daisies, which I thought was incredible.
You should import these Karel Zeman films if you haven't already. region Free and fully restored. Plus, they are pretty cheap.

Movie Review:

It literally attempts to defend the hypocrisy of the elite European politicians who have been trying hard to sell the idea that by uprooting people and permanently relocating them to a different part of the world they are solving their problems, while quietly and diligently serving the interests of powerful business and political players with dangerous global agendas.

Overall:

The final third of the film is an awful attempt to defend the hypocrisy of the elite European politicians who have been trying hard to sell the idea that by uprooting people and permanently relocating them to a different part of the world they are solving their problems, while quietly and diligently serving the interests of powerful business and political players with dangerous global agendas.

Dheepan is ... the weakest film to ever win the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

It's not even the worst film to win in the past ten years. But I agree, it sure as hell didn't deserve the award with that competition.

I saw Dheepan last March and I have to say that I was disappointed by it. It was not what I was expecting.

On another note, I found the DVD for David Mamet's House of Games at Goodwill for under $3. This is a blind buy for me, but I couldn't pass it up. Wonder why Criterion hasn't released it on Blu yet.

I wish Criterion would remaster Heat (1995). The audio mixing is awful on the 2009 Blu-ray and I read that the new remaster has some film transfer issues.

If they did remaster it (which it JUST got), they would have Mann's involvement, just like he was involved with the new 4K remaster, so it would literally look identical, because that's how he wanted it (revisionist colors and all). This is just silly. Besides, you haven't even seen the new disc, you just read about it.

One of my favorite movies in the collection, and a steal for that price! Hope you enjoy it.

It's high on my upgrade wishlist, almost as high as Mamet's Homicide.

It's a great film, but it's debatable whether Vlacil was really part of the Czech New Wave. Depends on who you ask.

Valley of The Bees is another really good one from him.

It means what it means: that generic, bland, non-challenging foreign films are often given a pass by certain types of film buffs that wouldn't give a pass to these films if they were American.

That's all I meant, and I've seen plenty of evidence of it in my time.

As for that director, he isn't for me. I find him very middle of the road, and I didn't appreciate the way he took a grimy 70's film (Fingers) and created a respectable bourgeois drama out of it.

In style, interests and background he is not much like his New Wave compatriots, true. But I was thinking more that the 60s in general were a really exciting era for Czech film, with much of that decade in general being so happened to be dubbed the "New Wave".

I love that film too. It's been on my upgrade wish list for years now.

Can anyone think of other David Mamet movies that we'd like to see in the collection?

Like Bates_Motel said, any "issues" with the new remaster are entirely due to the director's supervision and approval, like the issues people had with the new director approved "teal" remaster of Thief which Criterion put out.
