Michael Andrews totally ripped off this intro for his Donnie Darko score.

EDIT: I've Just discovered who the original artist is in the trailer music, and I've got it back to front. Patrick Watson ripped off Michael Andrews - apologies to Mr. Andrews.

For the transfers and film selections, yes. If that's confusing, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

I learned extras are pretty much worthless when I'd rather be watching a whole other film instead of 2-3 hours of extras for something I already watched. I've worked in Hollywood long enough that I know how movies are made, so I don't really need to see interviews or documentaries telling me stuff I already know. In fact the last commentary I watched was probably on DVD around 2001 or or so. But initially, they were cool on LaserDisc back when Criterion invented them and no one else was doing it.

Which is a shame, since you don't get extras when you go to the movie theater. Extras shouldn't be a tipping point to buy a film. The film itself should be, since that's the whole point.

I see you have Lawn Dogs in your top ten in need of a blu-ray. I whole-heartily agree.

As I think I have said before on this thread, Buena Vista do sod all via extras on their live action films if it's not something Walt Disney-ish. You'll be lucky to get a trailler. But that does not stop me from buying the films. How could I pass up a Rocketeer steelbook? I'm even thinking of double dippink for the lenticular SB

We always get shafted compared to the US when it comes to extras. I bought both the Legend & Starship Troopers steels but got the R1 blus on the cheap for the extras. Gave ST to a friend but kept Legend as I wanted the Eurpean cut

Yes, but I'm talking about films I've already seen. In many cases, multiple times. If I'm going to buy something, I want to learn even more about the film and have lots of extras. Now, if I'm going to make a blind-buy, which I've done many times, then yes the movie itself is what I'm after. But also in that case, heck. If all I want to do is see the movie then I can wait for Netflix/Filmstruck/HBO/whatever.

If there's nothing else on the disc, why buy it until I've seen it?

Eyes Wide Shut & Dheepan remind me of each other because everyone had this expectation going in that each movie should fit a certain mold and were panned when they didn't fit the zietgeist. All of Jacques Audiard meld genres in order to support the complexity of the film and life in general, much like Bong Joon Ho in Mother & The Host. I think people wanted a sympathetic romp about immigrant hardship, but when the complexities of Dheepan (and concurrently, his female partner's) experiences trying to balance their future and reconcile the past take measured turns, viewers are put on their heels and the quick reaction is rejection and mis-understanding.

Nah, it's just a mediocre action movie disguised as something greater. I do love Eyes Wide Shut though.

Yeah, not everybody is as lucky as you to have worked in Hollywood. I mean me for example at much of the special features on all the Criterions to help learn more about all the movies I like.

Which is why I originally said *I* don't care about extras. I didn't say anything about anyone else.

I'd still rather watch MORE films and expand my film knowledge than watch extras 99% of the time.

I dunno, to get the best PQ/AQ for films you love? Weird concept.

Lawn Dogs is a beautiful underrated film that doesn't receive enough praise IMO. Mischa Barton is a bit of a train wreck now, but she gives a wonderful performance in this film. I would actually go as far as saying that it's one of the best child performances I've ever seen! It has some of Sam Rockwell's best work too.

Shooter McGavin was great too. I used to watch it on starz all the time back in the day when I was a kid. I haven't seen it since then and have never owned it on any format. The DVD is a little expensive and as soon as I bought it if I did they would release a blu-ray. You know what I mean

A horrible character? Nonsense. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dïckheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.

I too couldn't give a flip about extras. For me, just more $$ spent to learn things I already knew.

Top PQ/SQ quality are musts, though!

Man, I'm so glad I don't already know everything like some people in the thread. Life would be massively depressing if I had convinced myself I had nothing left to learn.

Let's not kid ourselves here, there's a limited amount of things you're going to learn from any of these special features. It's mostly non-substantial stuff. 99% of it is trivia that you're eventually going to forget.
