Jabberwocky is a strange choice. Very mediocre film. Maybe for Gilliam or Monty Python completists only. I could see it as a bonus feature to a better movie, but standalone? huh...

Kind of what I thought when they gave a clue that it was coming. It seemed like it would be an additional bonus feature on a Gilliam or Python film.

They lost the rights to Le Cercle Rouge, whereas they've always retained Le Samurai's.

So in other words, no.

So .. Mulholland Drive was finally released a while back and now Le Samourai.

What will take the mantle as most wanted / most nagged about each and every month?

Never seen Samourai but I will blind but during the November B&N sale. I feel like it'll be good seeing how every regular in this forum apparently had an orgasm when it was announced.

the lack of Grand Budapest Hotel seems to have a lot of people moaning on release days, probably that.

Finally Criterion are releasing Le Samourai on blu ray. Le Samourai was the first Criterion DVD I ever purchased and now its the last Criterion DVD I still own (I only had a handful of Criterion titles on DVD) I will be retiring it after many years of service.... the last time being last Friday night. Can't wait for the blu-ray.

Grand Budapest Hotel already has a good looking blu ray

and I'm not sure if people really want Sixteen Candles, or if it's an inside joke

It does but this is the "mainstream" Criterion crowd we're talkin' here!
Personally I've been holding off on buying it as I know its bound to make its way into the collection and Im sure other people have been too, but lots of people have already been whining about the lack of it on release day and I dont expect that to stop anytime soon.

Definitely in for Le Samourai after all the talk of it over the years. It sounds interesting, and very cool. Will be my introduction to Melville. Probably The Philadelphia Story too, it's a classic with three legendary actors in it. Maybe on Desert Hearts, it seems to be an important film but not sure how good it is. Jabberwocky will be a pass for now, I've not seen any Monty Python movies and this is apparently a lesser effort. Curious that there's only four titles for November. A good month though.

It may not be top-tier Gilliam but it's hardly "bonus feature" material, it's still very much worth a standalone release. I love the atmosphere of this film - Gilliam basically thought the efforts to create a grimy Middle-Ages in Grail didn't go far enough, so he made this.

Budapest did have a good release already but it's basically confirmed that Criterion release all Wes Anderson films so everyone knows it's coming at some point, thus people are holding out for that release.

As for Sixteen Candles, I don't know if all the anticipation is an inside joke, but it's been strongly hinted at in the New Years drawing so it's not like they pulled a title out of thin air to make fun of.

Anytime I see a picture or clip of Delon from the film I immediately think of Ladd's Philip Raven which, in turn, reminds me that we have no Region A Alan Ladd Noirs.
