So only one of the 3 Monterey Pop films is upgraded to a new 4K remaster? The heck is the point of that? I might have bought it if all the films were upgraded, and the outtakes were upgraded.

I've always had a soft spot for The Election. Not sure I will double dip though.

All in all a pretty worthless month, possibly one of the worst months ever. Although the Olympic collection is amazing I doubt I can justify the $$$.

With Shout! Factory losing the rights to the Bruce Lee movies later this year, I wonder; what are the odds Criterion can get them next?

As my 2008 investment of $58.93 in the Monterey Pop DVD is still a chunk of cash I'll never recoup by selling it, plus my Oppo upscales the DVD to where it still looks, and sounds great, I'll sadly have to pass on this 4k remastering.

It's really weird, I just watched this last night on the Wholphin DVD that it was on. It's good, though the premise is stretched thin at 48 minutes. I hope Payne (or the school) still has the negative so they can do a fresh scan, because the colors on the DVD were -- well, let's be kind and assume that, as a student, he used an amateur to do the color timing. I'm sure they could do better with it.

No Harold Lloyd again? What is the blooming hold up? The Harold Lloyd Estate and UCLA have spent much time and effort in restoring these films, and all of the silents already have recorded scores from the likes of Carl Davis, Robert Israel, and Gaylord Carter so you can't cite restoration and music issues. Why even make the deal with the Lloyd estate if you can't bother to get a Lloyd film out in over two years' time? Given the large number of Lloyd titles, one a year would barely be acceptable and still take many years to see everything released.

I am actually extremely interested in the Idi Amin documentary. I love political docs and this looks like a very interesting subject matter.

Actually, everything this month intrigues me quite a bit. Including the Olympics set which I will likely never own. That said, will probably wait for sales for all of them.

Not me. Re-releases like that with already existing Blu-rays rarely excite me. I'm perfectly happy with my $6 copy of the 20th Century Fox Blu-ray.

The Idi Amin doc is worth a watch, but it's a slightly odd choice for an upgrade IMO. The problem with it is that Idi Amin very tightly controlled what Barbet Schroeder could have access to. So, while the doc is an unusually close look at a brutal tyrant, there are long sections of it that aren't overly compelling. But, like I said, it's worth a watch.

Default Harry Dean Stanton has died.

Harry Dean Stanton has died, age 91. In my opinion, he was the greatest character actor ever!

Speaking of Harry Dean Stanton, I'd love Criterion to upgrade John Huston's WISE BLOOD (1979) to the Blu-ray format.

As for HD Stanton, perhaps CC can scoop up The Straight Story.
