I don't really understand posts like these. Why are you so upset? He was 91, and lived a long, and successful life. We all have to die someday, and we should all wish to live as long as he has, and still have our facilities. We should be celebrating his life, not being angry about his loss,

Because the man impacted my life probably more-so than any actor. His performance in Paris, Texas is one of the primary reasons for where I'm at today (about to graduate with my master's in film studies.) It's not difficult to fathom how loss, no matter how timely, can leave a mark, particularly those within the realm of art. And I never said I'm angry. It just hits hard.

Definitely in on Election. Such an enjoyable and re watchable film. Too bad they couldn't get Broderick for an interview. Or even Chris Klein.

Disney would never allow their films to be on the collection that isn't from Touchstone. Why else wouldn't they just give them Song of the South for a proper release?

Hopefully it's still possible, with "More!" listed under the extras.

That is exactly what I exclaimed after screaming "OH NO!" when I found out the news on Instagram.

Why does everyone want Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club so badly? These have already been released multiple times by Universal and really have nothing to add in terms of extras (the deleted scenes for The Breakfast Club are in poor shape and Hughes has been gone for eight years, I'd imagine the only new material would be people who won't shut up about how great the 80's were claiming these are better films than they really are).

The Hughes movie could actually be Pretty in Pink, which has never been released on Blu-ray (also, Criterion has had a better relationship with Paramount in recent years than Universal).

So the sixteen candles clue would be a play on how some people confuse Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink?

I don't know. It's just people shouldn't take the clues at face value. They've had a bunch of titles get rumored through the newsletters only to never arrive (or have completely different movies in their mind, I remember people being convinced that Baby Doll was coming when it was actually the two Valley of the Dolls movies).

But anyway, it would make absolutely no sense for Criterion to do a film that's been released so many times that pretty much the whole intended audience already owns it. It would be like if Criterion did The Fast and the Furious (a movie Universal reissues every time a new installment comes out).

Or the newsletter clue that could be for nothing but The Breakfast Club...

A sandwich and coffee could mean anything. Maybe a food-related movie?

Also, I remember nothing about coffee playing a role in the plot of The Breakfast Club.

The sandwich is filled with breakfast food and looks like a club sandwich. It could be for any numerous breakfast related films, or Breakfast Club, or we can wait and see and never speculate until a clue is proven.

You can't be serious. Are you unfamiliar with a club sandwich?

The world became a significantly less cool place today.

Harry Dean Stanton's roles always seemed particularly tailored to his appearance, which could best be described as lean, beleaguered, and world-weary, but ultimately affable. His characters always had a comfortably "lived-in" appearance, almost like an unkempt mechanic who has been working at the same car shop down the street for 40 years, but who always has a pleasant spark in his eye.

My first exposure to Harry Dean Stanton was through the 1979 Ridley Scott film, Alien, where he played the unfortunate spaceship crew member who went searching for the cat. Later on, I saw him as the ill-fated father in Red Dawn (1984), as Molly Ringwald's father in Pretty in Pink (1986), as Bud in Repo Man (1984), and, most importantly, as Travis Henderson in one of my all-time favorite films, Paris, Texas (1983).

The list of my well-loved Harry Dean Stanton appearances is quite extensive, in fact. Ride in the Whirlwind (1966), Cool Hand Luke (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), Two-Lane Blacktop (1971), Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Dillinger (1973), The Godfather: Part II (1974), Wise Blood (1979), Private Benjamin (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Christine (1983), Slam Dance (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), Wild at Heart (1990), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), The Green Mile (1999), and The Avengers (2012).

Rest in peace.

Lee Kline has now made his instagram account private, but late last year he posted a picture of them working on 16 Candles.

If Criterion's releases of these films use 2K or 4K transfers, that alone would be an improvement. I haven't seen the Universal Blu-Rays, but given their track record for catalog titles, I bet they used old HD masters.
